I went out metal detecting for the first time today. Not the first time this year, but the first time ever. I was out at the local sports grounds for all of about 5 minutes and the town foreman drove up. I thought he was going to crap on me but instead he asked if "that thing" (a MXT) could find gold. I told him it could and he said that there was a guy who had lost his wedding ring the day before while raking leaves. Being a small town I knew who he was talking about and drove over to his place and asked him if he wanted me to take a look. He was more than happy to have me there and we started on the yard. It took about an hour to go over the yard with no ring in sight. Luckily he had put the leaves in a compost pile so I started to detect it. After approx 5 minutes of detecting in the piles I got a solid hit and pinpointed it at about 1 inch. I checked through the leaves more carefully and saw the glint of gold. I was really excited. I bent down and slipped the ring on my index finger, stood up and turned to Frank and held up his ring. I was excited and he was ecstatic. Pretty cool first day I would have to say.
