Cold today. Lots of ice on the river and the sand was solid, but had some good results from a previous visit at this boat launch, so I went back today.
As I was going along, I heard several good, repeatable sounds in a 6 inch (15 cm) radius, but the VDI was bouncing around and inconsistent. This caught my attention as I had not had the VDI so bouncy with such good sounds. (I didn't catch on at first, but now that I look back, it is easy to understand.) I scraped off a layer of sand and a quarter popped up. Cool. I swung the coil again, got the same tasty sounds, and a dime pops up. This was when I finally realized what the sounds were. I quickly scraped up 3 quarters, a dime, a nickel, and two pennies- all clad and all lying flat. I hope all coin spills sound off like that. (No pics as it was all clad.) Throughout the day found more coins, sinkers, brass casings, a busted up cell phone, and the usual junk.
Was neat to finally find a coin spill and to learn what it sounds like. A fun day.
