My first COIN CASH!

So I went out before work today with high expectation of finding some silver. I searched an old school site for the first time only to find out that 90% of all the beer and pop cans in the county have been 'slawed' and put where this school used to be. It was demolished some 34 years ago. So I went to an old ball field and horseshoe pit park to find the grass so tall I could hardly get close enough to the ground to be effective. I did however find one penny near the back stop. So I decided to go to a park along the river and hunt the shoreline. on the way down to the shore I decided not to waste the ground I had to cover to get there so I lowered the detector and began getting larger yet deeper signals. I attributed them to aluminum cans and for the most part, I was right. Then I got a signal that was multiples and strong but not broken - good signals, quarter to half dollar on the meter. XL Pro by the way. So I decided to dig. Wow! two quarters in the same hole, just over 7" deep. This is where the new Garrett pin pointer earned it's keep. I checked the hole and had very strong signal. More quarters and a dime! Five more times checking the hole and still a good signal. When the smoke cleared there I sat with 15 quarters, 6 nickels, 5 dimes and 5 pennies! This was the first time I ever found more than two coins in the same hole. I was as happy as I could be. I started checking to see if had silver and alas, none to be found. The oldest was a 65 quarter and the newest was an 85 quarter. I was a little let down till I reminded myself that this was my first coin cash and only my 7th time using a metal detector. Excited by the find I ventured down to the shore line along the river (Ohio River), and found another penny. The ground is still so dry and hard that I called it a day and went my merry way off to work.
The second pic shows my clad ONLY, since thats all I've found so far, total count for my first 7 outings. Some a half and hour and some two hours. Three parks and the rest around the house/farm. The totals are 114 pennies and not a wheatie in the bunch, 20 nickels, 48 dimes and 36 quarters. Once again, no silver yet.
I like this hobby and look forward to finding my first 'silver'. I'm also making friends with my XL Pro. I think I'll keep it!
BTW I was using the 9.5 stock coil today.

Way to go, your doing great,, looks like you have a decent place to hunt. This is my second year into the hobby and have found alot of coins & treasures but I've only found around 6 or so silver coins and a few silver rings, no gold, thier out there just have to keep at it.

Great News Dan'O

You are comming along nicely with your new XL Pro, with more time, the older silver will come. As you put in the hours learning your detector you will come to the point where you can look at the lay of the land and know where the older coins are hidden. Location is the key to finding the older silver coins, just do a little research to find the older places where alot of activity has taken place.

I am working on a place to hunt that used to be an old Girl Scout camp. According to an old timer that I talked with, the old buildings are still standing, so that place has probably had a detector or two run over it at some point in time. But at least I am going to check it out with my detector and find out if it is "hunted out". Good hunting to you:detecting:

Congratulation on the coin cash! Only seven times out with the XL Pro, hunting will only get better! :bouncy:

Very nice find and nice machine! I started detecting back in the "The Day"......analog is still stupendous (and the XL Pro is the cream of the crop with the best of modern ergonomics). Tons of fun ahead of you! Scott

NO PLACE is ever hunted out. We just have be a little smarter and hunt in the areas that others missed. Like under brushes and trees close to the ground that may not 40 5 years back and areas like that..
