My first Civil War finds with a Garrett GTI 2500

This is what started it all. After spending one full year coin hunting to learn my detector. By the way, I paid for two Garrett GTI 2500 detectors with modern coins I found within that year. I decided to try my hand at relic hunting. The years I spent hunting and fishing and exploring caves, etc. really paid off. I had a wealth of knowledge of all the surrounding areas, but I didn't know anything about the Civil War. This was in 2000. I jumped into research mode, and within a couple of months, I had located about 31 Civil War sites in SW VA; many that have never been hunted. The first place I decided to try came from a small part of an old diary that talked about camping one night on a small ridge a few hundred feet from a creek. I soon figured out where I thought the small camp was, located the owner got permission, and the rest is history. Shown in the photo are the relics that got me started. It's all in the research.

Thanks for sharing that and for helping to preserve some of our history. Do you think a Civil War Museum might be interested? "Can you describe some of those items for us?
