I went back to the "CACHE" spot on Sat.My 20 year old son Tyler made sure that he went with me.I let him use the excalibur and I used my QXT-pro,as we worked are way directly to the tree.I went over the area real slow, while my son went to a tree that was about 25ft away, and right away he got a good signal.Yes! I hoped for a repeat.I kept swinging with one eye on my son.He was digging real slow, because I told him how I had a hard time pinpointing the cache on Friday because of the big signal and I had to go slow so I wouldn't hit a coin.So after 15 minutes I had to go over there and watch him dig.He was halfway to his elbows when he got to a plastic bag.We both thought trash, but looked inside anyway....Well things got interesting because out plopped a derringer pistol...A very rusted derringer, but a derringer all the same.We did some speed hunting after that bouncing from one tree to another, but nothing else amazing. We haven't even scratched the surface yet. When we got home I cleaned the pistol up a little, this is what I know ,it is a High Standard 22 cal mad-100 with the eagle emblem on the left side, that means it was made between 1962-1967.A little bit about the plastic bag.It seem to be a early type of surplus bag,it is a celluloid type bag they used back in the day.It kinda feels like plastic waxed paper. The pistol had cotton bandage type wrap fused to the metal. After thinking about it today, this is my hunch-I think the coins and the derringer are related because it is too big of an area with too many trees for them just to happen to be next to each other.I also think that because of the age of the derringer ,bag coins and condition of derringer;whatever happened was probably mid to late 60's.This is what I'm gonna do,I think there is a chance of some cash being there, but it not metal, so therefore no signals.I'm gonna use a regular shovel and get some material away from the trees then take a look-see.When I'm satisfied I'll run the numbers on the derringer and see what the deal is.Looking forward to your input... thank you Steve R aka regnartoken.
