My First Bird Band!

Hit an inland lake today with the AtPro. It was frozen tight to the shore and halfway across, but where a little creek dumped into it, there was a small patch of open water...So In I went! I also got a very tiny sterling ring with what looks like 3 small pieces of turquoise in it...I wore my FroggTogg rain pants inside my leaky waders and that seemed to work fine, better than getting soaked anyway...water was cold, my feet felt like blocks of wood after a few hours...all the rotten leaves on the bottom made for some messy scooping, a guy had to sort of plow them out of the way before going after the target...

Upside is the Wife likes the bird band and it fits her perfect! Maybe she will give me back some of my gold? Ya think?
I had a ton of oldish beavertail tabs, but I have no idea where they went?...that circular thing is a heavy piece of brass...no old coins, that little ring looks old though...tomorrow its supposed to be halfway warm, (50f) and after that, all down hill into the teens with rain, sleet, and snow...so this may have been the last waterhunt for a while for me...at least here in MI...I doubt a guy can make it through this long of a Winter just reading posts and watching youtube vids, might have to make a drive South... a fellows gotta hunt!:detecting:

Mud,
Congrats on the bird band.

If you don't already know, you can enter the numbers on the band and get information about the bird. They used to e-mail you after reporting a found band. Would make more sense just to show the information when you enter the band number; but you know about government efficiency!

Like that band ! Truthfully my water hunting results suck , big time. Seems like the few places handy to me have been hunted hard. No problem at all finding tabs & shotgun brass though. Gonna have to try harder when I'm down south. Wonder if you filled those waders up with water, if you could find the leak?

TVR, I just called them...they took all sorts of info, like County, nearest town etc. my name and address, email, all sorts of stuff I didnt expect...I got a little info out of them, but they said more would accompany the certificate they are emailing me...Whatever bird this was, most likely a goose, since it was banded 7-30-2008 in Winisk, Ontario....I cant find it on mapquest, so it must be a really small place, or a marsh or something...

The lady I spoke with says her Husband detects! She said he hasnt found anything good though....(at least not what he's shown her:lmfao:)....I told her to have him call, if he does, I will direct him here of course..

Hey there Dancer, if you are finding old shotgun shells and old pulltabs, that is a Great sign...a gold hunter would never miss those targets...

Got to wonder if her husband isn't showing the goods or if he is one of the ones who swings the coil 6 inches off the ground at the middle of the swing and 12 inches off the ground at the end of the swing. :lmfao:

Try google maps. It shows the location. A little west / north west of Polar Bear Provincial Park on the Hudson Bay. Appears to be a pretty remote area. Probably a dedicated group of bird banders took a trip to go band some birds.

Nice find Mud, but I do think they should start making them in Gold...

TVR You aren't supposed to let those high golf swingers know they are not doing it correctly. At the beach I will follow them at a distance digging up what they missed. Scored a 18K mens wedding band that a guy with the CTX-3030 missed due to never getting the coil close to the sand. He was better than some as he usually got the coil within 4 inches of the sand at the center of his swing and only about 8-10 inches at either end.

Joe If the Government made those bands out of Gold it would cost us taxpayers another Trillion or two every year. We pay enough with them being made of aluminum.
