I stayed home this weekend and hunted locally today. I got permission to hunt the yard of a guy I had left a note for about a month ago. The signals were few. I think that this is the first hunt where I haven't dug a bunch of wheaties since I can't remember when. I thought I might get some silver, but didn't expect a Half Dollar! I have never dug any silver coin bigger than a quarter until today. This was at the base of an old tree under about 1 inch of dirt. When I dug around the signal, there were many small surface roots so I only managed a shallow, 1" thick cap. When I stuck the probe in the hole, It moved some dirt off the coin. At first, I thought I had an aluminum token until I picked it up! All-in-all, I got $0.48 in clad, 1936, 1939 and 1945 crusty wheaties, a toasted colonial copper, 1943 Walker Liberty Half and a 1958 D Roosevelt dime. It was a GREAT day!
