My first Beach hunt and Gold find

I went to visit my sister in Florida this past week. I spent M-F on various beaches in south Florida. Juno, Jupiter, Lake Worth, Deerfield, Ft. Lauderdale (Las Olas) and South Beach.

M-Th the waves were too rough to get in the water very far from shore. I mainly waded knee deep or just hunted in the wet sand.

Friday I went to South Beach and took my sister. We were visiting more than hunting, but I was able to get out in the water this time. I didn't find anything there, but I was able to find the cuts and the pan, etc. that I have heard about on these forums or read in books.

My lone gold find was at Jupiter beach among some shell in the wet sand. It was a little bit of an odd signal because the target was oblong, but still good enough to make me feel like I should dig. I'm glad I did.

I went into this trip feeling like it would be a success if I found one gold find and to learn. One thing I didn't care to learn too well was that Easterly winds on the East coast of Florida will cover up the deeper targets. I look forward to being there again when the wind and surf are more favorable. I also know now what I need to purchase, like a wet suit for example, before I make my next trip. I will also set my goals a little higher and more specific next time. I wanted to find a gold ring to know what to listen for, and that is my goal for next time.

Thanks for reading!

Here is my lone find. It is easy to see how it was lost.

The next couple weeks the water temps will jump by 5 degrees, still a little chilly, but bearable if you are hitting good targets. Maybe next time your down I can make it over to the east coast.HH

Once you get a gold find, it is hard to get over. The only cure for what ill's ya is to go and find another piece! It's a disease, an obsession, an infatuation! Nice piece man!

Thanks Papa Joe. I live in East Tennessee and can make the trip to the West Coast of Florida easier than all the way to Lake Worth.

I may try a mini trip there. My guess is the surf would not have been as much of a problem.

Hope to see you there sometime!

BTW, I did kind of touch base with Stacey and knew that she had plans to be at the Daytona hunt. She asked me to take pictures but I was too focused and excited on hunting to go back and get my camera.

Until I can afford to get back to the beaches I'll have to hunt here in Tennessee on land. Soon the fresh water beaches here will warm enough to produce lost items and see me.

But, I am hooked already on the Ocean beaches.
