My first Barber dime found w/the Outlaw!

I took the afternoon off today and hit an old (and seedy) part of town. I was rewarded with a few 1940-50's wheat pennies and a 1907 Barber dime! The dime was only a few inches deep by a 100 year old elm tree next to a condemed house. I only had two hours so I'll need to go back and search that lot!

On a sucky note, I scratched the head of the dime with my lesche. Thats already the second time Ive done that in the six months Ive been at this...

okay, I'll stop dominating the message board now.

Nice dime, I remember when i found my 1st barber quarter it was in the farm field, at 9" deep and i waked right into the middle of it with my digger , kinda like being really hungry and somone gives you your favorite hot dish but when you chew it its full of sand , just ruins it I have not found a barber since. but wait till i get out then i will hog the message board ha ha

Nice one. I think old silver dimes sound different than any other coin. I can usually ID them before recovery.

wtg.....!!!!!! I remember my first barber dime well, 1899s, it was also my first 1800's coin about 25yrs ago.

No kidding!

Nice coins. I have scratched a wheat penny! When I locate a target and the Garrett pin pointer doesn't indicate a surface coin, I recheck my pin pointing and cut my u-shaped plug 4-5 inches wide and remove dirt keeping the hole that wide while digging unless the pin pointer zeros in on it for me. That way I am removing the dirt from the sides and not poking in the middle with my digger. I remove 2 inches and place it on the drop cloth, check for coin, check hole and keep going while removing dirt from the sides and not in the middle. Haven't scratched one since. I usually keep my plugs narrow as I have gotten really precise on the Silver uMax pin pointing. I find that if I am off a little it is usually 1-2 inches north of where I determine center everytime. Knowing this I cut the plug accordingly.

It never fails though, if you are gonna scratch one, it will be nice silver one.

Look how old that dime is.. Now you found it only a few inches deep. Why do you need one of them high dollar detectors to go half way to China.. Just get a Tesoro and get to hunten... KEN

That's a very nice find.

Barber Dimes don't pop up too often. The Outlaw is one heck of a detector.

Nice Find I will always remember my first two Barber Dimes for sure found both the same day 12 feet apart Got one of them hanging around my Neck now Had a coin dealer look at it at a club meeting one night and he told me in the condition it was in it was worth about $55.00 so I was happy with that but its worth a lot more to me with the Memories
