My Finds From the Spring Hunt

Nancy-IL

Well-known member
I didn't hunt much, but what I did, I feel pretty good about. I found 6 wheat cents dated 1920-1953, 1939-S Merc dime, a small handful of clad, a large cap gun (I thought it was a real gun at first. I'll clean it later and take pics) and also this U.S.Boys Working Reserve Pin. The organization started in 1917 to help out families in the WW I. The organization only lasted from 1917-1918. A bit over a year and a half.

Nice going Nancy!! That Boys pin is amazing!! Nicely done. I had a great time and was happy to have made it out (even if it was just for a day). The old man and I said we will be camping at least one of the nights next year.

That would be awesome to see more faces next year. Glad you two could come and enjoy the day off. HH, Nancy

according to this collector. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/23473-the-united-states-boys-working-reserve/

In short, Nancy's "pin" is a 300 hour service badge issued in 1917 which was changed in 1918 to a numbered badge. Considering the organization was started in May of 1917 and the boys had to put in 300 hours of service to earn the badge, there would not be much of 1917 left for too many of the badges to be issued.

Congratulations honey.......:cheekkiss:
