Last Friday I went to a farm owned by a friend. He thought that at one time there had been an old house or hunting cabin located on his property. I spent a good bit of time hoping that I might be lucky enough to pick up an old silver coin or two. Found a clad quarter, three wheat pennies (45, 41, 12) and one zincloln. Also found what appeared to be a coin slightly larger than a quarter that had been cut and at least a quarter of it was missing. This evening I started gently brushing the piece of metal with a brass brush in hopes of revealing what I had found. The picture is rough and so is the coin. It is a Irish Copper Halfpenny. I can just barely see the lines of the harp on the back of the coin. Georgivs III REX minted from 1774-1776 and 1781-1782. I can not yet see the date but hope that it will clean enough to do so.
It might be copper but that coin is my "Gold" for the year. I dont think this find is bad for a rookie.
