My favorite lucky find.

While shallow water hunting a lake near the Susqehanna River in Pennsylvania, I received a good, strong signal and started digging. After about fifteen minutes and many scoops of mud, I saw what appeared to be a large arrow point/spear point in my sifting basket. When I waved it in front of my search
coil, there was no sound. Confused, I put the searchcoil back in the hole and received a very loud signal. The actual metal target was still in the hole, deeper than the first artifact. Turned out to be a very old solid brass oar lock. Fortunately for me, the arrow/spear point was right in line with the oar lock. I hope the photo is clear enough for you to see my favorite find. I was on private property with permission. Dave.

Wow, I've lived in injun country most of my life. I've never found anything like that. Big BIG congrads. Find of a lifetime. :please:

Silversmith, I have been detecting for 25+ years here in N.E. Pennsylvania and that is the only American Indian artifact that I have found. I sure would like to take it somewhere and have it professionally examined for authensity, age and what Indian Tribe used that type of spear head but I may never get it back. Anyone have any suggestions? Dave.

Have to call the show,,, "the history detectives". They will give it back. JK ,, might not be a good idea.

Really I don't have a clue who could help with a find like that.

Beautifull!!. It seems that you are lucky!! It is the biggest one I have seen. I bet you can get some really good money out of it. Congratulations.

Man I've found alot of arrow heads and spear points in my day but that is one of the nicest I've ever seen. I started off finding them when i was a kid in Kentucky in plowed fields above natural springs nothing like that though. Very nice. they sell books at Barnes & noble for Identification . :yikes:

Go to your closest museum or University that has an exhibit or a professor that specializes in Primitive Native Cultures. The will want to carbon date it and they might actually offer to buy it from you believe it or not. My local museum has a decent size collection of things like that acquired from private citizen fossil hunters. Usually they are arrow heads though, I've never seen such a great example of a knapped spear head before.
