My F4 Update & A Couple Questions

I went to 2 parks today and used the DD coil. As stated earlier I wasn't impressed by the ID'ing of the F4. What a difference the DD coil made, it was alot more accurate. I found some coins and believe it or not 5 rings. The rings had no real value but I love to find them anyway. Also I found a 1926 Buffalo nickel. This was the first time in my life that I have ever used a DD coil. My pinpointing was off alittle bit but not too bad. I have to learn the "sweet" spot I guess. I did get alot of quarter readings that were not quarters (usually a bottle top). I am liking the F4 so much better now. It is very stable, well balanced, made pretty good.
For some reason I haven't found any "clean" (new) coins only ones that are very colored (not old but very colored). I can't understand this I know there has got be be some there.
What's up when using the round coil - id very inaccurate. But DD doing pretty good. I would like to try the 4" coil when I can afford one.
What happens if say during our winter months I send the F4 to First Texas to have it checked out & nothing is wrong with it. Will I have to pay the shipping back to me and pay First Texas for there time? Or should I just forget it and only use the DD coil.
I said in an earlier post that the F4 disc. out iron pretty good, but today using the DD coil it would sound off on large iron (which is understandble. Sorry for the long post and I really do appreciate all of your replies! Steve (upstate New York).

Steve it is possible you could have a bad 8' coil. try and swap it out with another to see. A Regular Bounty Hunter 8" coil will work. If you send the machine in for a checkup under warranty there will be no charges, only shipping to get it there.

Just run them through a tumbler with some aquarium gravel, water, and a squirt of dishsoap. Let it run for about 4 hours. Don't mix quarters/nickels/dimes with pennies, though, as the copper will discolor the other clad.

HH from Allen in OK[/quote] I wasn't complaining about the dirty clad coins, I was just wondering why I wasn't finding any clean ones. Thought it might be something to do with my F4. Steve...

I like the black dirty coins, the blacker the better. I save all mine and use them for the parking meters that take nickels, dimes, and quarter.

short time for today's era coins to dis-color. Weekly trips to the tot lots and school yards during the school year should yield a few clean ones though.

That's basically going to be an area that sees rapid replenishment of coins, like a tot-lot. Sometimes, on sports fields, you'll find a recent drop or a recent pocket spill, that will have some fairly clean coins.

Steve, your F4 should test further than a few inches accurately, do some air tests and see how far it accurately ID's coins, just place some coins on top of the ground and see how far it takes before the meter readings change.

Hard to find those with todays coins. A lot of the newer pennies are corroded away after a year or so. A fourth if not half of them are ate away. I have so many that are good for nothing. With the coins they make now days, there won't be anything for our kids to hunt in the future. Some say it is the chemicals we use, not sure about all that from the different sites I have hunted. Let's face it, zinc just sucks!
