My F-70 will be in Wednesday...what are my options?

I've been a MD'er for over 20 years and have owned many metal detectors in the past. Still have my trusty old Spectrum and it works great.

I've had limited experience with the F-70 so far...but that is about to change.

I need some advice as to what extras are essential to make the F-70 the best it can be.

What coils are the ones to own to make the F-70 really perform? I've heard that the DD coil from the F-75 is a hot setup.
What about the 6.5 inch coil? I do a lot of trashy area hunting. Which one would you get first?

Coils covers?

Dust and rain covers?

Probes.....I own a Vibraprobe 570 and love it. Would a Sunray be a better choice for the F-70?

Travel bags or cases.I love having a hard case to travel. I had one on my 1280X and it was great for airline travel. Is one available for the F-70?

first...no hard case for the F70 that I know of...........but I've used hard bow cases before for detectors.and they work great!
As far as the coils are concerned..you'll probably get a lot of opinions here......but I'll tell you what I'VE found..............
First........NONE of the accessory coils will get the separation the F75 stock coil will....and from what I'VE seen.....its a must have for the F70. Much better resolution and separation over the Stock F70 concentric. That's NOT to say the F70 concentric isn't a good coil. It is. It just doesn't get the separation the DD gets. I also have the little concentric for the F75/F70.and honestly.........it collects a lot of dust. Despite its size............the little coil STILL gets trumped by the 11" in separation too. That's not to say it doesn't have it advantages in certain areas. Because of its size..it can squeak into a lot of places the big coil just cant fit...........and depth for that size coil is phenomenal!!! It's also good at low sens setting in trashy parks...where iron isnt a problem..........but lots of non ferrous targets are.
My coil of choice for both the F70 and 75 is the big DD......hands down!
You'll aslo find that in trashy areas.....the De mode on the F70 will be your first choice.......but when things open up....and you want extreme depth.................the SL mode is a killer. I cant WAIT till my big fields get harvested so I can go over them again carefully in Sl mode. Its DEEP!
good luck with your new machine. hope you have fun and lots of sucess with it. Streak!

Thanks for the info Streak.

I have a friend who is also new to the F-70 and he is also interested in more info on the F-70 and what is what. I will pass the info on.

Since I have posted this query, I have found a hard case for the F-70, F-75 and a few others.

They have one at Kelyco ...here is the link......http://www.kellycodetectors.com/fisher/fisher-f70buy.htm

I will check out the hard bow cases...probably less expensive and probably better.

Has anyone had any experience with the SEF coils?

I see one on ebay for the F-75 and I hear some good things about them.

They should work for the F-70.

Are they available in the US for the Fishers yet?

not so much being able to buy the two separately.....but being able to CHOOSE the stock coil that comes with the machine. Unfortunately...after market stuff can be lucrative to manufacturers...and they will offer the coil they think gets the best overall performance....and then offer the accessory coils at a premium. Profit margins are probably better that way. they ALL do it. I recently wrote Garrett to tell them I thought they should offer the 8" mono coil on the infinium as stock.....and the heavy HUGE DD as an accessory......but got nothing back from them but dead silence. They KNOW that if you buy that particular machine............you WILL buy one of the smaller coils to make it manageable. Its a guaranteed sale for them. Like it or not........while we want certain things from manufacturers....sometimes it not feasable for them from an economic standpoint. Like everyone else on the planet....they are in buisness to make money. If they were in it just for the fun of it.....things might be different...but thats not the case......................

Streak, you like to use the SL mode when possible. Would you mind telling us what your other settings are while in the SL mode
and are they different than when you are in the De mode. I realize that your conditions could be different than mine but it would at least give me an experienced starting point. Take care and HH. Dave.

The way it is now,the whole sales strategy is reversed. It should be what the Customer wants and desires, not what any manufacturer wants to sell the customer. Just because 'they all do it' this way, doesnt mean its right and that it has to continue this way.

Like I have been harping to my kids all their growing up yrs, 'If you keep doing what you have been doing, you will keep getting what you have been getting'. This doesnt sound too bad if you have been satisfied selling x amount of detectors every yr. If you want to possibly sell more, perhaps try something that appeals to the customer, not the bean counters at the factories.

Perhaps, selling units without a coil may prove positive. The most important aspect in any companies eyes should be that the CUSTOMER is happier. A happy customer is definitely more likely to become a repeat buyer and spread their contentment and excitement to others which is always good thing.

Who knows? Some company may pioneer the concept and benefit from it as does the customer.

Time to get out and detect, enough dreaming here.

Subject: Fisher F-70 and the coils

Hi!

Just bought a new F-70. It will be here on Wednesday. I've owned a
1280X for 19 years and loved it.

I was wondering if it would be possible to in the future, offer a choice of coils?

Instead of the standard F-70 coil, how about an optional F-75 Double D?

Or how about offering detectors right from the factory to dealers via special order. Sort of like buying a car with options.

You could offer a Fisher Metal detector with a built in pinpointer, like a sunray or equivalent. Or you could offer the 6.5" coil, Or any number
of options.

I know many detector owners buy options for their detectors from third party suppliers. What if you made say...Sunray...the official pinpointer
for the F series and offered it as an option with the interface built into the control head?

From what I've been hearing, the F-75 double D coil is what people are buying anyway. Same with the Sunray. So why not offer it as an option?

Just my thoughts.

And their reply:

Right now, we do offer the 6.5", 10" and 11" DD coils.

John McKitterick of General Electric says ' the principal task of the marketing function.... is NOT so much to be skilled in making the customer do what suits the interest of the business, as to be skillful in conceiving and then making the business do what suits the interests of the customer'

IF businesses are able to identify and meet the customers wants and needs, customers will generally pay more for their products. The Company, in turn, will spend money on developing products that it knows its customers want. Repeat customers and their repeat business lower per unit sales costs.
