My Explorer shaft mod

Think this is the best way to make the minelab Explorer lighter in weight. I was going to mount it on to a Sovereign shaft, in the end i made my own shaft but I did use a Sovereign GT arm cup...i used a handlebar grip for the handle, then I made a nylon bush up to fit the outer circumference of the meter box and the inside circumference fitted over the shaft. I cut the handle for the battery pack down and made a bracket where the stand goes, so it can be hip mounted to my belt. I used the original coil socket and fitted it to the top of the shaft and made another nylon bush to fit the socket to the top of the shaft...that would be your extension cable for your power and audio....now drill a hole in the bottom of the meter box and fit a new chassis mount socket for the coil. I might at a later date mount a battery pack under the arm cup...i do use a SE which i like...now when my arm starts to ache...i can changeover to my lightweight Explorer
All the above is made to perfection and I had the shaft powder coated the total weight with the coil is 1.8 kg

Wow!

Good job Les, That's one of the cleanest Explorer mods I've seen.

Well done,

Hi
This time a have made a Explorer 2 still lighter using 7/8 tube and using the Excalibur battery pack as you can see i
have moved the headphone socket down to the meter and the arm cup is still adjustable.

Make sure the units out of warranty and even then doubt if Minelab U.S.A. would repair any of these modded units..

I have now added a hip mount lead to my Explorer shaft mod 2, all am looking for now is a small camera bag to hold the battery pack to my belt
I have also added a blue tooth dongle if you look at the photo you can see the dongle plugged in to the headphone socket the head set i am using are the Motorola HT820.
