Atleast that is what it looks like to me, as I've used a similar looking one myself in a past Explorer mod.
Maybe you've used the search stem off a PulseStar MP20.(If it is, do you still want the MP20 control box and coil. If not maybe I could by it off you?)

I really like it. I think it's a great idea and a reasonably good mod that makes the Explorer even lighter.

Your right , its a leg off a camera tipod stand , easy to remove from the tripod . I'm 6-2 so I wanted extra legnth , thus the lower 6 inches of the explorer lower rod . The handle was welded on by me , added a bicycle grip, thats way confortable .I orderd the Babbs arm grip , heck I can't make em as cheap as he sell em
What I wanted was a truly convertable machine , hip mounted I'm at 2.4 lbs. on my scales
