My Excaliber II Battery cable connector needs repair

The connector on the battery cable of my Excal II must have been pulled of something, anyway, I have to wiggle the cable when connected to the battery to get any power to the detector, and that is just intermittant and it doesnt stay powered. So there seems to be an open, either in the connector or the cable. Problem, I called minelab repair and it is up to 2 months turnaround. Ridiculous. My excal is out of warranty so not worried about that. I just want it fixed and not 2 months down the road.

Does anyone here know anyone that works on excals here in the states that is reputable and that I could contact and make arrangements to get this repaired.

Thanks for any help folks here can give.

i had the same problem with the battery wire it was ckracked by the connector fix it my self but now the headphones wire did the same thing but close to the control tube and i'm not plaing with that so i'm sending it in

with the battery wire i opened the round conector (2 screws one long one short ) then i cut the bad part of it (it was like an inch from the original soider) then soidered it back to the 2 conectors put back together

but since i'm sending my xcal 2 to minelab anyway i will have them replace both ends

Make sure you use that 90 % silicone grease on your o ring and mark the top cap end with a marker to lineup in the exact spot when back together.Mine was completely broken off replaced with a nine volt battery connector from radio shack. Good Luck Ron

Thanks guys. Guess I cant hurt it any worse than it is. I can solder ok, just dont have an iron now. Living in an RV you kinda make sacrifices on what you keep and what you dont. And ours is small. No slide-outs. I can run by Radio Shack tomorrow and get a small soldering iron and some solder and some of that 90% silicon and then take that connector apart. Just wasnt too sure initially how that connector was put together. Figured those screws did it, but wasnt sure if there was anything I couldnt see that I could screw up. Done enough electronics work to know I can get into trouble real easy working on something I dont know alot about.

Thanks for the help guys. Will keep you posted. Keep your fingers crossed. I would keep mine crossed but I would really mess it up then. :yikes:
