My Excal works in the rain

This past Saturday dawned cloudy and raining. The weather guessers had predicted 70f degree weather for Saturday until some time Friday when they lowered there guessing to 40 + degrees and rain.

I arose, put on my coffee, went out and retrieved my paper in the rain. I was disappointed that the weather was lousy as I had intended to be at the beach shortly after high tide at around 9 am.

I cooled my heels until mid morning and told my wife. I am going detecting rain or no rain. So loaded up and headed for the beach. Arrived at around 11 am. Planned on hitting a cut that had produced a couple of nice finds a couple of weeks ago at low tide.

Went to where I had previously had a clad digging good time. Got started and immediately was again into finding clad. Got busy and never did make it down to where the cut was that I had wanted to work.

Yes it rained and Yes I got soaked and the temps never got above 52f. My hands got so cold that it was hard to turn the knobs on the Excal to put it in pin point to be able to better locate those faint (deep) targets.

I got a real mixed bag of finds. Sunglasses, $9.05 in clad, a stainless steel piece, two brass nails, two lead sinkers, A busted I-Phone. One sterling silver toe ring (with feet embossed in it) and one small 14K gold ring with an aquamarine stone with two smaller stones. Dont know if the stones are real but the ring has been rescued from the ocean and is now safely residing in my "Treasure Chest" (Its actually a plastic box)

Even though i was cold and wet I enjoyed my day.

Great! :clapping: I love a post like this! :please:

So, whats your wife say when you tell her you are going out in a mess like that? I can imagine its pretty much standard what we all hear!!
Real great hunt, and I am glad you got a huge haul, including gold and silver..you really worked it...very pretty ring there...:clapping:

Great hunt and a great ring! Well done:) I wear wetsuit gloves, they are very good, and if your hands get wet they still work really well. $5 for a cheap pair, I wear mine all winter, they're perfect for cold beaches....

Mud I told her Saturday morning that I just might get mad and go detecting in the rain. Her reply was "Why would you need to get mad?". Been married to that Lady for getting close to 50 years so she knows me pretty well by now. She would much rather me be out metal detecting than a lot of other things that a guy could get into. Or even just sitting in my easy chair as detecting gives me much needed exercise.

Congrats on the ring.....It's a nice one. Be careful and stay warm/dry on those rainy day hunts..... I got out last week after the cold and rain, and after that on a couple foggy mornings. Day b4 the super bowl started feeling under the weather, made it to two SB parties last night and am now down and out sick.......

Ha! I'm gonna get mad and go hunting!:clapping: I understand! Anger is a powerful motivator! It really is a very strong drive to get a guy out and hunt...my Wife knows when I'm getting all wound up and ready to kill something too! Yes, detecting has been a good outlet for that...go kill a bunch of pennies and come home feeling better? I dont know why, but it works!
