My Ever (illegal) Growing Pipe Collection :smoke:

I laugh evry time I pull one of these from a park or water. My buddy, a retired police officer told me about the many times he was patrolling beaches and parks, when he detected the smell of weed. As he approached the smokers, they would toss their pipes out in the water or bushes as far as they could. And of course, I found some of these.

I also once dug a signal under a tree, and out came a bag of white powder, and a digital scale of which my GTI 1500 picked up. I kept the scale, but reburied the powder....Often wonder what the druggy thought about, after retrieving his stash with the missing scale. Probably got a little paranoid, thinking someone was watching him. Too funny!

I've pulled what I'm told was a pretty expensive one out of a hole in the surf line at the beach. Handed it off. You have one with any material or residue in it on your boat during a boarding and you say goodbye to your boat and everything on it under the zero tolerance rule. Since my boat IS my home there are some finds I don't bring home!

Haven't found any of those to date, but I can see there's a decision to be made whether to put one in your goodies pouch. Especially if it's clean and looks recently used.

I found one in the yard of house I had been hired to clean out. I was a little worried so I called the police station. They said they could send someone out if I wanted but they were just going to dispose of it. I told I could do that and they said fine and thanks for calling. I tossed it in the trash sack, crushed it and went on my merry way.

Yes, Ive found those and usually leave them be. Along these lines. I m always finding spent shotgun shells (some with obvious powder residue), bullets, etc. Im sure a bunch get tossed in my trunk and sink to the lower crevices. Do you think a sniffer dog might hit on those during a boarder crossing? Or are the dogs that smell that kind of stuff just for searching for bombs, etc.? Although Ive never had a dog experience at a Canadian crossing. CO

Just think of the countless millions of brain cells those pipes are responsible for killing . . .

Are those pipes themselves illegal up in Canada or only if there was some residue left? Just curious, down in the states those pipes alone are legal and sold all the time, like mentioned above if it still had residue in it you wouldn't want to be carrying it around.

I have found five. I wish I had kept them all like you. Would make an interesting conversation piece. You actually have some pretty cool ones.

A few years back I lost one of those type pipes.. Hahahaha A Park Ranger took it. Read for the rest of the story..No I am not a druggie !!

He wanted to see my permit for detecting, and my Id.. I had a pipe in my trunk, placed there minutes earlier when I changed Batteries.. problem was..So was my permit ...... he spotted the pipe in about 1 millisecond.... Was in his hand even quicker...
He instantly called in for a Wants & Warrants on me.. Even asked for a backup car to be sent to our location. Got a little touchy there for a minute or two...

Luckily I had pictures on my digital showing it in the ground where I opened the hole, and the pipe looked like it came from the ground...... He accepted I found it.. That darn thing still had Marijuana in it.. The second officer kept saying it was possession of drug paraphernalia, and I could be arrested. Thank Goodness first officer decided to take it for disposal... I have always wondered if the second officer would have arrested me... Had he been the guy who asked to see my permit.

At the time it would have been a drug charge. Not just a citation... I leave em behind now if I find them... Lesson Learned !!!

I came across a cigerette pack while detecting and inside it was a spoon and a hyperdemic syringe and needle...We all know what that was being used for.Needless to say I tossed that baby deep in the underbrush.UGGGH! just the thought of somebody doing that to theirself.

I remember once detecting in the woods around an old foundation. I swung the coil over a rock and got a signal, I moved the rock and found a plastic bag with little aluminum foil packs in it. I just put the rock back and kepy on detecting away from the area. LOL You never know what you'll find in the woods.

You could have used that powder to metal detect longer and dig faster. You wouldn't have to worry about running out because you can always sell all of your finds and metal detectors to buy more. HH

You can buy pipes in stores. Residues a problem? Only if they had it out for me. I am sure judges would not be very impresses having police officers waste court time with such a ridiculous charge for a guy in his 50's, employed and a family. But then again....stranger things have happened.

Gosh....I would never take any of those types of dug items across any borders. That's just looking for trouble. The pipes shown were all dug near my home. Framed, they make a good conversation piece, make some people blush and could probably be sold as a collection.

John..thanks for 'different' than usual post. Sure put a smile on my face. And no...I do not partake of it. The high quality stuff almost rivals the cost of gold by weight in the USA.
