My evaluation of the Excelerator 4.5 X 7

I was talking with JW (everyone knows JW) at Kellyco a few weeks ago and made a couple of orders. Upon completion of business our conversation drifted off to steelhead fishing. I have been trying to get JW to commit to coming to Idaho this fall and doing some serious steelhead fishing. I think the photos of some steelhead I caught last year may have him "hooked. Well near the end of our conversation JW ask how I was doing with my MXT. I told him I could not be happier. He ask which coils I had for it and I told him beside the one that came on it, the 950, that I had bought the 6x10 and the 4x6. JW said that I should get the 4.5x7 Excelerator. I told him that I already had the 4x6 and saw no need for the 4.5x7. JW convinced me to give the coil a try. He said I would not be disappointed. When the coil arrived I took it to an old park that is full of trash. If there ever was a place to test this small coil this would be the place. It did not take long for the coil to shine. I began to recover coins in an area that I had just hunted days before. I found that I was able to pinpoint with ease and the VDI numbers were accurate. I hunted the park for an hour or so and found a hand full of clad coins and other goodies. I did not experience any adverse problems with the coil during the hunt. My first impression of the coil after the hunt, was positive and I felt that the coil may find its place with my arsenal of coils. Well its been nearly a month now since I began using the coil and I have found that not only is the coil great in trashy areas, but with its wider scan path it allowed me to use it when hunting open areas, like sports fields etc. I really pounded my area using this powerful little coil and I honestly did not have any problems. The 4x6 and the 4.5x7 coils are similar in their abilities, but I feel that the 4.5x7 coil has the edge. It not only is great in high trash areas but I feel it scans deeper and with its larger scan path it does not limit me to areas that I can hunt. I will always have this coil with me while I am in the field. It is my favorite small coil and I would recommend it to anyone that is interested in a small coil for their MXT. JW was right when he told me that I would be impressed with the Excelerator 4.5x7 coil. HH Dennis in Idaho

I have a 5"Excelerator coil I got from the Odious Ogre of Orlando(Kellyco);)last year and love it in trashy areas.Has anyone had a chance to compare it with the 4.5X7?How much is this new coil?

I got my 4.5 X 7 Excelerator brand new with cover off eBay with lower rod shipped for under $100. I put it on my M6 and I have not taken it off since. Best coin coil I have ever owned.

certainly one of the better choices a person can make for use on the MXT (or M6). :)

I got the 5" with my MXT before they had the 4.5x7. I've had great luck with it in trashy areas. According to JW the 4.5x7 is deeper. I've also have the 8" which is a great coil. It is a little deeper than the 4.5x7, again according to JW. Rob

This coil IS 5" in diameter, or just a squiggle less than 5". The 5.3 Eclipse, like the 5.3 labeled coils for the 6.59 kHz models is NOT a 5" diameter coil. It is 6
