My E trac is on the way

I think the posting about wasting $1500 was the trigger for me finally deciding to buy the E-trac.

After reading all the responses to that post, it seems that there are a lot of very passionate users of the E-trac.

And those responses really made the decision very easy.

I have been reading the on line owners manual and the E trac PDF review and I can now see them in my sleep.

Now the hard part. I bought it from one of the advertisers on this site. I got a really good deal. They sent me the UPS tracking number. Now I have to check on the darned package every so often to see where it is. I can't explain it. It is almost like Christmas used to be when I was a kid. I've never been excited about getting something delivered before.

It is going out today. I should get it by Tuesday.

But Tuesday is so far away.

Now I do have a question. I have read the reviews of the SEF coil. Is it worth having? Or should I consider having a smaller coil for trashy areas that I seem to hunt in. Or are there other coils that I should be looking at ?

And finally, there is a arm rest that is available by a guy in Georgia on the popular bidding site to replace the one on the E-trac. Has anyone used it and is it worth getting?
The arm rest that is on the E-trac to me seems very uncomfortable. I have heard that some of the factory arm rests have broken in the field.

Glad to hear that thread inspired you to buy! As far as the arm cup, I've had Explorers since 2000 -- never broken one -- I wouldn't waste the money on a third party version. Good luck with it -- if you're out in NJ look me up!

Erik, I have also never broken my cuffs but after swapping the stock plastic cuff out for one of Jeff Herke's metal cuffs, I would never go back to the stock one . . . . . it fits your arm better, can be adjusted to fit your arm and is real solid.

To each his own on the accessories one buys but for what he sells them for, it is one of the better values in my view.

for really trashy areas. I bought the 5" Excelerator EQ2 Pro and went back to some of my trash infested sites and started pulling out more goodies! If you have a lot of trashy sites it's well worth the money. Also makes it easier to hunt between the corn stubble. ;)

I agree with Mike on the results of using a smaller coil in high trash and after trying several, the 5" Excellerator coil seems to produce the best under these conditions. At $100, it's a deal that's hard to beat when you look at the prices of most optional coils.

Hello Andy.

I am going to order the 5" coil today. I also ordered the metal arm rest.

I have been seeing videos of the SEF coils. Are they worth getting or is it just hype? I hear of greater depth, more separation, and on and on. I also have read where the SEF's are not all that they are said to be. Has anyone had any experience with the SEF's ? Recommendations?

I will be doing some beach hunting and was wondering if the larger size of the SEF's are an advantage in covering more ground faster?

Here's one I was watching: E bay #250316587416. As soon as mine comes back from repairs, I'll be buying one. I'm in withdrawals.

Dave has one on this page..

. . . there are after-market coils that work far better than the stock ones . . . . and the same with the arm cuff. Take a look at the design of the replacement cuff - fits your arm better and is adjustable by squeezing the sides in or out. Never had a problem with the stock one - but have no intention of going back after installing the metal cuff.

Just one point of view

I have tried a friends E-trac for about an hour and the stock arm rest does not fit me too well. I have well developed larger fore arms and the shape of the factory arm rest is very uncomfortable to me.

I have several other detectors that have rounder arm rests and they fit me fine. So the decision to get the ones from Jeff in Georgia was a no brainer for me. And he does have a complete money back guarantee minus shipping.

I am still wondering if I should get the SEF coil. I have the 5 inch excelerator on order but I have been wondering if the 15 x 12 SEF coil would be a good investment. I have heard good and so so reports about it.

. . . . . . and once you get the hang of the two, see if you think you need the extra coverage / depth the SEF coil provides. I would never recommend getting a bag of accessories at first since it makes it hard to really master what you have since you are trying all sorts of combinations - getting more frustrated than you should with the equipment you will have on-hand.

Even the Pro coil will serve you well in most areas . . . . . and I would recommend staying out of the super trashy sites for at least a little while so you can get used to what the detector is telling you.

I'm just getting back into this hobby (20+ years ago had a White's Coinmaster with just a handle) but my first day out with my new E-Trac made me think an arm rest that didn't need a strap but just squeezed your arm would make it much easier. Anyone have any experience with something like this or other comments?

Thanks,

Wayne
