My dinky dab + a SAC..

Stopped at the park up the street from my house on the way to the grocery store and hit the playground for about 20 minutes and found this little pile.

Had a bunch of little girls following me around and when I found my first coin they got all excited and started digging in the chips and kicking up chips with their feet. One little girl actually found a nickel doing this then the frenzy began.

Did you ever get to the grocery store? Reminds me of a time many years ago when I was detecting a school. I was doing pretty good when all of a sudden the bell rang and school was out. Here they come! What are you doing, what do you find, etc? The usual.
Then this cute little girl about 8 or 9 years old tugs on my shirt (I was wearing headphones) and asked me something. Not hearing her the first time I removed my headphone and asked her what she had said. She whispered, she wanted me to run the search coil over her tennis shoe. (?) I told her it may only pick up the metal eyelets on her shoes but I did it anyway and disonnected my headphone jack so she could hear it. Loud Quarter reading!!!
Being surprised I then looked at her and she whispered to me again so the other kids couldn't hear what she was saying, "I keep my money in my shoe so the other kids won't know what I have and I don't loose it".
Out of the mouths of babes! I will never forget that.

....Oh, that is rich!

I wouldnt be at a school detecting during session, but you are freee to do what you wish. I did notice Bills ability to pull about every coin known from his site(s). Did you spot that?

WTG Bill !

I'm guessing the sac is the same year as all your other sacs? How many more are there left now?

Funny how the kids get all caught up in wanting to help and start digging all around you as you continue tecting.

Your story reminded me when I was tecting in Northern Ontario this summer and a class of about 20 kids were taking swimming lessons at the beach I was tecting at. One kid followed me around and never said a word as I pulled coins from the sand. Then all of a sudden he says hey mister check over here. I say why and he says I lost something over here. Well I never found anything and continued on my way then all of a sudden all 20 kids in the swimming class surrounded me asking how much I found and how the tector works.Things got worse when I pulled a couple of dollar and two dollar coins in one scoop. They were digging eveywhere....I started laughing and ended up leaving.

Yeah this one is a 2000. The curse continues. :) Makes one wonder what happened to all the Sacs from the other years. Stamp machines at the Post Office give you your change in SAC dollars. I'm going to check it out and see if one gets all 2000's back in change.

That little broad will go a long way. :) Yeah I attract kids like a magnet and often have a mob all around me. I like it when they dig the coins for me. I get a big kick out of them.

Only thing missing is a half and they are scarcer than SAC's. Don't know what people have against those. Used to find a lot of Kennedy halves.

Bill

You just tweaked my memory. Had that happen a few weeks ago at a playground and this little girl had a quarter in each shoe. I wondered why she kept asking me to scan her shoes. Maybe these kids are worried they will get mugged by the school bully. It happens.

Bill

... I humour them for awhile, then when they start to congregate I reach in my trash pouch and start to hand out treasure. They take off pretty quick.

As to halves, I have found more than one old silver half, but I cant recall finding but one clad half - and that may have been a "Bo dollar," come to think of it. They really are the bastard child of the coin world!
