perfect pinpointing, exact depth readings another smoooth perfect 3hour and 15 minute hunt...this detector gets the job done as always.
$7.63 in clad and 107 coins.

Nice hunt Gregg! Perfect pinpointing and quick target extraction always makes a hunt feel worth while. And by the looks of it your efficiency was top knotch, way to go!

I know you use the DFX and you two are a good couple. How does the machine rate finding nickels; obviously, you find quite a few. I use the Explorer SE and to be honest with you, if I don't dig pull tabs; I don't dig nickels. Is your machine that much better?

With my nickels I found something out. People were telling me they were always either a dead 19 or 20. After using the dfx for a few months i realized they were to be polite....wrong! A few months back on one of the other forums a member noticed my nickel count at the time was low.....So I decided to do something about it. First I found that my nickels were coming in mainly at 19 or 20...but not always. A lot of my deeper nickels were anywhere between 16 and 24....but always a solid signal.
Once i realized that the spread was larger then i had been told my numbers jumped a lot on my nickels. I think the biggest difference is following the theory of digging solid repeatable signals. I am more fooled by those tiny eraser tip heads now then pull tabs! I still do dig some pull tabs but I have actually started finally to >>not look at the display screen.... I prefer using tone id on and do not need the display anymore, but use it as a reference to look for unusual numbers and dig them. To be honest if i dug every signal I would have one of the pictures that i see the ace250 users posting with 50 coins and 300 pull tabs!

Thanks Greg!
I got the free book on the DFX White's been giving away. But, not owning the detector makes it (the book) hard to read or understand. I've been thinking about getting another detector but decided to wait until I'm totally comfortable with the SE. I'm definitely finding a lot of stuff but also over-digging to get it. My ratio of junk to find is probably 3 to 1; not good. I have no problem detecting clads, and coppers. It's the elusive gold, nickles, and old silver I want. Ain't I the greedy one? :)

Keep hunting!

I like to joke around about the different brands but obviously some are smart enough to figure that out and some are not! For me I mainly go by what the actual users of each detector say throughout the forums. It seems it is a love/hate relationship with both the explorer and the dfx! You might see a lot of this also>>>>People asking questions that are using a detector that they bought have been using a while then...>>>>>>>they ask a few questions....>>>it obviously shows they >>>oops>>>>did not even crack the manual open! Obviously to be successful with these detectors slight adjustments have to be made and reading and rereading any info including these boards is a must.

I am surprised about the amount of trash you are digging per coin!:stars: One question>>>are you digging every signal? Because with the dfx to be honest when it says its a penny it is a penny, when ts says its a dime its a dime or a silver ring! When it says its a quarter it is a quarter...but I notice in the forest preserve areas pop/beer cans seem to be a real problem coming up as a quarter...>>>but the easy way to tell the difference is depth. One of two things happens...either a overload reading appears or your depth reading will say 2.0 and you dig even a inch or two extra and still nothing...because another inch or two it is that damn pop can at 6.0!!! So also that can be avoided because the dfx depth readings are extremely accurate so once you dug an extra inch you know it is a pop can (before someone says anything I know there are exception this is in general)

I dig>>only solid accurate repeatable signals (I know people sometimes find chains on broken signals)this allows me to pop/dig as necessary and move on. So if you are digging every signal I think that is understandable...but I am not and I know it is costing me some finds...but saving my back for the next hunt too!:detecting:

Are you digging every signal? I could not imagine digging every single signal where I hunt! I usually have to stand still and move so slowly to separate the coins and trash...but with the small coil i can do it.

Also about this Captain se guy.....claims to have found over 300 silver coins this year.....well I don't know him so I will not say it is not truthful but...I find it extremely hard to believe! Also read his post yesterday on I think you know which forum....and he was complaining because he did not find a silver coin for the first time this year....but found 20 Wheaties and sounded like he was complaining..give me a break...some people over do it!!!!

Hello Gregg,
Sorry, I just today came back to this topic.I'm not sure I'm following you and if indeed you are writing me directly? Please understand; I have an Explorer SE not a White's DFX.

Yes, digging pulltabs is a problem for me. With the SE pulltabs can range all over the place meter-wise and sound-wise depending on numerous factors such a wet-dry, pieces of tab, new or older tabs, etc.

Anyway, yes; there's times I dig every signal but not every hunt. For those signals I choose to ignore I often wonder "what if?" :)

One more thing; what did I say-write that you do not believe or, am I misunderstanding you?

No just the question about digging all signals was my question. The other thing was just an observation I was making about someone else. After reading it I did see the confusion, i did not write it clearly.

First of all I think it is strange your pulltabs are hitting all over the place! On the dfx I have problem pulltabs from 16 to 26 area. I have bottle tops coming in the low 50's (50-53).

I have read some of your other posts on other forums and I understand the problems you are having with your explorer. I think if you could get a couple of these guys to stop bragging about their own finds maybe someone could help you!

Why not just write down exactly what your problems are and put them in questions in the explorer classroom. I have seen some of the poor responses you have received when you tell them about being frustrated. I notice a lot of explorer users bragging but not a lot helping!! Good luck, honestly the dfx is an incredibly accurate machime!

Hey Gregg!
Thanks for the PM, it's appreciated.

Yes, the Explorer SE is a beast but one I'm taming. There's a lot of info out there and I've read it all! Lol!

Honestly, I'm finding the stuff, some good, a lot bad but as least I am beginning to enjoy the hunt. Although the pinpointing is still a problem, I'm learning to deal with it.

I've been watching out for a good price on the DFX. In fact, just today I was told where I can buy new for about $625. Almost unbelievable!

Take care, keep swinging!
