My Cupajo inspired scoop..

Ok, it's not as PRETTY as his, but I did add one mod. If you look at the pic you'll see a brace across the back of the screen. This will allow me to push with my foot! The scoop was made with junk I had laying around except for the screen. It's made of:

4" stainless exhaust pipe
1/2" conduit
1/4 mesh from Lowe's (it's kinda lightweight so I doubled it over)
1/4 x 20 bolts (no longer have welder)

I managed to cobble this together with only ONE injury! A new record for me... It's a little tight being only 4", so I payed special attention to rough edges. A little emory cloth work and I feel it's ready! I may spin the handle around the other way to help with the front heavy balance of the scoop, but otherwise I think it's ready!

Cool Scoop pyledriver. Congrads you did a great job. Also very impressed you gave cupajo his rightful cudos. My other hobby lingo would offer you "73", best regards! :please:

Thanks! But now I'm curious...what other hobby is that?

Nice job Driver!

So far the welded stainless screen I used is holding up well and I use the scoop a lot (often in wet, pebbly sand)!

I have been thinking about adding a back brace though.

I know you'll like it and the price is right!

After you use it with the handle the way it is you may learn to like it.

Mine doesn't sweep quite as far back from center though and that may translate into a handling problem for you..

I find disgarded beach chairs that have tight bends and are aluminum for light weight.

They work well too!

Fun to mess around with building and even more fun to use!

Amateur (or Ham) radio. Thats number one hobby. Chit chatting with folks all over the world. It's what got me my profession; Radio communications. Again cool on the scoop.

Ah, ok! I have a ham radio buddy at work. I'll have to get his call numbers for you!

Joe, I wondered about that bend also. I used my conduit bender and it's just not a real tight bend.. Still, I can remove that if needed and get a piece bent by one of our maintenance people at work. Thanks for the inspiration! The price IS right and I'm hoping it'll help me bring home some GOLD!!

Yep, that handle is a PITA!!! I'm already bending up a new one... However, the scoop works well and I was able to add about 60 pulltabs to the trashbin!! Sounds bad, but that beach is finally getting cleaned up enough that I have some hope of getting some good hits next time! I suspect I'm not the only one hunting this particular beach though.. I'll just have a little extra confidence that I have a badarse scoop that allows me to cover more area!

I was WAY off the pulltab count! Pop tops, pulltabs and bottle cap totals were 114! The scoop increased my rate of finds per hour by a LOT!

Hi Pyledriver,

Lots of water has passed under the old bridge since you built this baby.

Do you have anything to share regarding how useful it has been?

Regards,

CJ
