My Compadre's on the way!

Hey Everybody,
I'm a new guy on the block. Years ago I bought a MD from (of all places) WalMart. I think it was a bounty hunter, and a low end bounty hunter at that. Hey....it was from WalMart! Regardless of it's low end status I have to say that I had more fun with that thing. Sure, I dug up enough beer tabs, coke cans and other junk to fill a water cooler jug but I also found lots of coins, one ring and a stainless steel spatula over twelve inches down in the sand. How it got that deep, I'll never know.

I was hooked from the beginning and started making plans to save up for a better machine. The idea of finding a real old coin or some expensive jewelry was really just a plus for the hobby. I just really "digged" pulling something out of the ground and now knowing for sure what it was. It was all treasure to me. Well, my 'then' wife didn't share my enthusiasm for this new found hobby (actually, she was always a pain in the caboose) and I was eventually discouraged enough to sell my MD in a garage sale.

Flash forward eight years and I'm talking with my young sons (ten and eight) about those bygone days. They were just babies when I had that 'ol WalMart special. Well, their mother didn't last much longer than that MD (heh heh). I'm remarried now and my boys live with me and after talking with them about it and hearing their excitement about metal detecting I began doing some research to find me another one.

I've read every review about every machine I can find. I've watched hundreds of youtube videos of metal detecting. I believe at this time that I can make an educated decision so I just ordered a Tesoro Compadre. Lifetime warranty, lightweight, inexpensive, no nonsense single dial function, American made, customer service second to none, great pinpointing capability. The list goes on. Both of my boys are small and I know that my 10 year old will be all over this thing so I took them into consideration when making my choice.

Sorry to be so longwinded. I'm just excited to get back to something I fell in love with...metal detecting. Oh, and as for my currenty wife? She thinks it's a great idea!

That sounds great. Hopefully you have a good spot picked out for the maiden voyage. If those kids find anything other than pulltabs they will be hooked. Also kids are a perfect ticket to hunt the tot lots, where the Compadre can excel. Good luck and enjoy!

Congratulations on making a wise choice. The time spent with your children will be far more precious than anything you will ever find. Have fun and Merry Christmas!!

that compadre will will do things that most machines dream about for the price range, light as a feather will find coins up to about 5 to 6" range and loves tiny gold!

Welcome to the forum and good luck with that Compadre.

It's a wonderful little one knob machine that is dirt simple to use, and a great way to spend time with your boys.

It's my favorite machine. I simply am amazed at how it finds stuff. If I was told that I would have to get rid of all my machines except one-the Compadre would stay.

All of this positive feedback is the very reason I picked this machine. Spending quality time with my boys and making memories is what it's all about. My oldest son is 19 and when I told him I was getting a new machine he started talking about the fun times we spent at the beach finding all kinds of stuff. My town is situated on a river so there's all kinds of beaches, parks, soccer fields and old, abandoned houses (my favorite spots) to hunt. I can't wait to try it out!

Its hard to beat the Compadre, especially since you can get a used one for the price of a coil!!

If you read Tabdog's posts,he'll tell you how GREAT the little Compadre truly is!

Man, this is great. My wife just left me and my 3 kids. (Ages 9, 4 and 1.5). She laughed at me when I would metal detect. Now that she is gone, I wonder about what women are out there that would maybe even share in the hobby with me. Enjoy your new compadre and your time with your kids!
