My Compadre and Me

My only detector went to the factory. I have been looking at the posts about the Compadre , it sounds like a good back up detector. It came yesterday and did my first hunt and the second hunt today. My hunting partner and I really are impressed. It does a good job of collecting coins and other small targets. Ran Disc@the I in iron. Surprised us both. Next hunt will Disc out foil. Thanks for the help in picking a good back up detector and one that is fun to use.

I'm glad that you saw the light and didn't take all the great things said about the Compadre as a bunch hype.

The Compadre works extremely well and is more fun than a barrel of monkeys to use. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar it's one of the best detectors made.

It looks like you had a great day!

Nice haul!
It's hard to top the Compadre's package of performance, fun and simplicity.
Oh yeah, don't forget to consider price!

I have one on the way , thanks to IDX,

I've borrowed one of my hunting buddies Compadre before and there is just now no explaining how much fun they are to use!

I have been a TID guy for 8 years. I like the F70. When I looked at other detectors as back ups they didn't offer much different than the F70. I wanted something different and the Compadre is different than what I am used to. I was not sure how I would like a beep and dig detector? Still not? The past two hunts have been confusing to say the least. I can't push a button to pin point or read the depth or what the target might be in the ground. The pin pointing was so easy it took care of itself in one hunt. At this point all targets sound pretty much the same to me. My retrieval of targets will have to be modified but that is a learning experience. The price and light weight were factors that pushed me toward the Compadre. I don't want another $500 or more detector just kind of sitting around doing nothing. The 5.75" coil was another reason for the Compadre. Most guys want bigger coils. I want smaller, lighter coils. I noticed one thing today that I was spending more time hunting and not trying to figure out if I should dig it or not. I wasn't looking for more information that the detector could offer me to see if I should dig it or not. I just pin pointed and dug. It is an experiment and I will let you know how it is going. Thanks for the encouragement... Happy Trails.....Z

In the right hands the F70 is a very capable detector. The Compadre is an extreme contrast to what you have and are using! I think it is cool that you just pinpoint and dig. If you get to a real trashy area just turn that disc to just a tick past tab and cherry pick the coins. If the tone is scratch at the beginning or end of the tone, it is usually not a nice round object like a coin. As you probably already know, check from two directions. It takes some getting use to determine this. When you crank up the disc to cherry pick you will hear pops and clicks. This is not EMI as some people think, it is just targets being partially disc'ed out. If you hear it a lot you know you are in a trashy area. Slow down the swing speed, overlap passes, and dig the coins out!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Sheesh! Lookat all that stuff! :surprised: Tiny items in there too! Nice work! Theres gold in your future!:beers:

I just noticed in the picture above, that's one of the shortest sharpened pencils that I've ever seen. Period

The Compadre may not quite be the "end all" in detectors, but every arsenal should have one.

My Compadre is my compadre.

There are many like it, but this one is mine!
My detector is my best friend.
It is my hobby.
I must master it as I must master my life.
My detector, without me, is useless.
Without my detector, I am useless.
I must swing my detector true.
I must pinpoint more precisely than my competitor who is trying to dig more coins than me.
I must out-hunt him before he out-hunts me. I will...
My detector and I know that what counts in this hobby is not the holes that we dig, the the size of our coil, nor the tones we hear.
We know that it is the speed of our sweep.
We will find...
My detector is human, even as I, because it is an extension of my ... arm.
Thus, I will learn it as a brother.
I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its TID and its control panel.
I will keep my detector clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready.
We will become part of each other. We will...
Before God, I swear this creed.
My detecor and I are the finders of wealth and history.
We are the masters of the tot lot.
We are the saviors of relics.
So be it, until victory is mine and there are no targets, but pulltabs!

Rainyday: I am starting to get the coin sound. It is like a full sound as compared to the sounds I call the spit sound on the front and end. Thanks.... :detecting:

Mud it picks up backs from earrings. I am digging everything as usual when a new detector comes my way. It is kind of neat right now because I never know what I am digging? So it is a mystery until I see it. Gad over $43 in one hunt. I am going to call your wife and tell her.....

Little John can I be excommunicated from the Church of Compadre? I seem to be a little odd or off. I went out hunting this morning when the fog was so thick that all UFO's were grounded. Puddles with standing water over my shoes all over the place from the very heavy rain this morning. Wife said you can't go hunting today it is too wet. I said not at the beach. So I went beach hunting. This is not normal for an old guy to do this stuff. Is there some kind of virus that comes with the Compadre?????

BB my arsenal was one detector. With the Compadre it I won't have to go back to knitting and suffering those bloody eye injuries.

Slingshot I don't think I would like to get between you and your Compadre??? I could get hurt....:bouncy:

CladDog I am sure they have medication for that. :clapping:

Tab: I forgot you sorry. Yes that is a short pencil for a short timer. I had one like that when I was in the service marking the days off until discharge from day 1.

Thanks guys and Happy Trails.....Z

I cut my detecting teeth on a similar detector, the old Silver Saber.

Today, I'd grab a Cib and run if given the chance.

Still, can't beat a Tesoro beep n' dig for coin brooming.
