My Compadre and Me #6

I went to tot lots and a ball field that I hit last week. Look at what I found with the Compadre that I passed up. . I was also following someone that left many holes. I just wanted to see what he and I left? This is from three sites. Of course some were new drops, the rest were deep, I or he should have found. This confuses me??? How do I miss so much in a little tot lot??? In a ball field well its big easy to miss stuff. Thanks for looking in and enjoy your next hunt.....Z

You're really taking to the Compadre. As to how to miss so much? Remember that the signal shape loses a lot of coverage at depth, that's why they recommend moving only a 1/3 to 1/2 coil width as you move forward.

ya the other guys probably had the disq up to find silver only and moved forward so fast they just made a Z pattern and missed 75% of things in ground , I know a guy who just goes slow like a turtle and he finds lots of coins if you watch tab man he also slows down , sometimes a fast sweep can loose targets so you are doing good , I am so glad to have the compadre back as it can do things the Mirage can't do , but then the Mrage can do things the compadre can't do , a good reason to own opposite detectors,

Just look at all those nickels. Nothing good is going to get past you. It you ever put your coil over a gold ring, it's yours :detecting:

Check the grassy areas around tot lots. Parents running after totters can lose and have lost gold wedding bands in the thick grass. I know, I've found some of them.:)

1. Slow and overlap those sweeps.
2. Think grid pattern.

Thorough wins every time.
You're doing great.

PS don't tell the other guy about 1 and 2

BB I think you are right. With the Compadre I just kind of lope around with a slow swing. All those eraser tops came from tot lots. I always dig eraser tops because those are nickel signals. Most of those pencils were deep. No wonder my nickel count is always low. I am learning a lot by swinging the Compadre.

Gunnar most of the guys detecting in tot lots disc out pennies, tabs and pencils. I don't understand this but this is what I have found out detecting tot lots?

Tabman I have found that out too about tot lots more on the outside of the tot lots. My nickel count is going up swinging the Compadre.

dahut I run a grid pattern when doing tot lots they are usually small and it sure pays to do that. I also run small coil because you can not get close enough to the poles with those big coils. I use small coils all the time because of the weight thing. It is far easier to swing those small guys. Thanks guys for the help and thanks for stopping by....Z

Dont feel too bad Zeek!...

In all actuality, value wise, you didnt miss much at all! .....
Unless 2.38 clad, a freakin' 20 cent euro, a damned kroner, some seriously F-uppt pencils, a hotwheel car and a pile of scrap have some sort of higher cash value in Wisconsin than everywhere else on the planet?...

If thats true then yes, you missed a kings ransom!....

Hi Z,,, I think you are doing a hell of a good job cleaning up that junk out of them tot lots. Also look at the clad junk you got too. Remember what everyone says,,,, keep the disc low,,, swing slow and take your time. Before you dig, rotate the disc knob to see where it goes out than comes back in again... listen to the beep. Is it a strong beep or is something funny about it. Remember the sounds. You will learn the sounds. That is when the compadre is talking to you. You are doing great... KEN. Ind

Mud that was the greatest come back of all. Enjoyed!!! :clapping: Always enjoy your posts, but this one was earth shattering. :bouncy: Rocked my world....

Ken the Compadre's language is starting to sink in. I just may get the hang of it?

Thanks and Happy Trails....Z

My first detector was a Silver Saber II, and this pretty much describes the technique I practiced.
It is essentially the same for all detectors, no matter the make or type.

Take the information it gives you and decide.
Go slow and listen, wherever practical.
Overlap your sweeps.
Recovery is the only way to know, for sure.
