I grow cactus and succulents as a hobby....i cant keep track of the names...for you East Coast people and other cold places , cactus flowers are beautiful but they do not stay around very long...a couple days or so...I have one that only blooms at night!!!! by 9am its gone to cactus heaven.

The picture on the right is where i got the close up shots of the flowers...just to give you an idea of what they look like....ive had that plant for over 20 yrs and it will not get any taller and its probably about 10 inches (each plant) in diameter

What got you started in this hobby? One of these days, I would like to get a collection of the native cactus growing in this area. Thanks for sharing, interesting subject. Kelley (Texas) :)

I am asked often what got me started in the cactus/succulents and to be honest im not sure anymore. But i do know I started at my previous house we owned back in the mid 70s...I started growing cactus in the ground (larger size)....then we we bought this place i transferred a few. We do not have sidewalks or curbs (county area) and i planted many where normally the sidewalk would be...i have a couple racks full of various cactus plants in the back yard...im trying to get any more....i only get unusual ones or the ones one cannot find at lowe;s or home depot or walmart......
