My buddy showed me how to clean gold buttons today

It's pretty simple just soak them in straight amonia til the green crud comes off then rinse with water. I dug a eagle A button that was bad. I could see some gold popping through in spots. These two came from the same spot as my breast plate. Thanks for looking. HH

not more than a couple hours. I kept checking them. Once the green crud is dissolved take them out & run them under tap water with a tooth brush. It's amazing what it did to that A button.

Good tip, thanks!! That ammonia really makes the gilt pop. I have also found that for gilted buttons, aluminum jelly and a Q-tip work good.

Cool. I was told naval jelly works well also.

Never tried that, I have always been too grossed out to dig it out of my belly button!!!

FYI I always use clear ammonia not the lemon juice kind.
