My biggest concern about the MX5

When the M6 came out, there was almost no "chatter" on the forums about it. I got one simply because I was looking for a change from my Garrett GTI2500. Then I discovered it was a coin and jewelry MONSTER. All the gold that others with other machines were leaving behind in the parks waited for me and my M6. I can't tell you how many times other detectorists would come up and inquire about my machine and most (even those using White's machines) said they had never even heard of the M6. Fine with me. I was doing great with it. While I have dedicated this last year to learning the Etrac and have had great fun with it, the M6 has been my favorite machine (unless the MX5 takes its place - time will tell).

Now the MX5 has come out and there is LOTS of "chatter" about it. Granted, some of the chatter is about issues with the machines, but I'm seeing a lot of people who have spent most of their detecting days with other brands suddenly giving the MX5 a good, long look. Now if the MX5 is the gold hog that my M6 has been, and a lot more people pick one up, then I may find myself finding less gold due to the competition. Bad news for me.

So, for those of you reluctant to pick up an MX5, listen to that little voice in your heads - more gold for those of us that have them!

Not sure the reason why but over here in the UK i dont think i have ever seen one being used and certainly not seen anyone asking about them on UK forums,if a new machine is coming out you will usually get all the pre launch hype and initial interest, but with the MX5 they are advertised in our detecting stores and online outlets but it has not transpired into actual sales. This is only from observations as no one any of the club digs that i have been on which is every week no one uses one.

Most suprised that Whites had been allowed to use the name MX5 as that name has been used on Madza sports cars over here for years,Whites had to change the original name of the V3 when it was launched due to problems with Garrett already using that original name.

The MX5 may be a stunning detector but it has not caught on over here, why i dont have any idea,it may be more setup for the US detecting conditions.

Ive always found more silver with whites machines. But with gold its seems the m6,mxt,mxtpro is what im mainly finding it with. Ive also noticed i find alot more nickels with them too ,,i bought a vx3 when it first came out. I found silver as equal as i did with my mxtpro but did notice i did not find near as many nickels or as much gold. My gold count went way down. And i blame that on what info my brain understands from detectors. For me the mxt models gives me info that is easy for me to understand. Dont get me wrong the v series is a fantastic detector. But we all have to use what we feel the most comfy with. And that goes with everything we buy. Depth wise ive never noticed an advantage of one over the other. What i will say is the mx5 is very very comfortable for me , im finding lots of nickels and for my that means more gold. I have already found more gold with the mx5 than with my vx3 or v3i ,, mx5 feels lighter and since im 6'4" its actually long enough for me without a tall mans rod! Also i have huge hands and the mxt style handle wont allow me to use all 4 fingers to hold it. Only 3. Lol the mx5 handle allows me to use all me fingers to swing it,, these little things mean alot to me. Volume control is a huge bonus!! I no longer use a v3i as my main use machine.. I was waiting for a mxtpro with volume control.. That was really the only reason i started using the v series anyway .. I know what the mx5 can do ...

The reason they couldn't use the name "Vision" was because it was already in use by Garrett - another metal detector manufacturer - same product as White's. The MX5 Mazda is a car - a completely different product. For example there is a car here called the Spectra and we have the Spectra series units (V3i, VX3) but again it's a car not a metal detector, different product.

Different type of product.
