My best pull tab ever

bula

Member
I got out for a few hours this morning & hunted a spot where once a year they have a large outing with lots of vender's. I hit this place last year & ended up with a few bucks in clad but you never know what you will find. Today the first signal I got was a solid 22 on the MXT as expected there would many pull tabs around as there is a lot of pop & beer consumed during this two day event. Well to the point I rearly dig a 22 as it is always a square tab but for some reason I stuck the screw driver in the ground & sure as tabs are silver out popped a glint of silver, then I noticed that it was round. Well I'll be dammed if it is my first good pull tab, a 14K white gold Fredrick Goldman wedding band, I looked it up & it retails for $950.00 but on sale for $450.00

I spent two hours hunting & found $6 in clad a silver bracelet (mexico) two cheap gold plated bracelets & a small hand made silver trinket. I don't know if finding the ring was a good sign or not, because from now on I will be digging a lot of the 22vdi & I know that most will be just a tab. I will try to add some pics when I get a chance.

Good for you Bula...........:clapping: Nice pulltab.

Hey Bula it looks like you'll be getting a lot of those pull tabs out of the way for the rest of us for awhile. JK Nice score. Are the other items silver too ?

Well, you know what they keep saying, "if you want to find rings, you have to dig tabs". This also holds true to some extent for zinc pennies. I've hit several rings that showed as zinc pennies on the ID.

BB I to have found small silver rings in the penny range, most of the gold I have found was at 20 on the id. My best one was at 7

In the penny range I have also found The new presidential dollars and sacajawea (spelling?) dollars. I get tired of digging tabs also. I have been experimenting a bit with prospecting mode to eliminate some of the tabs, Havent really found anything that is constant yet. Dig, Dig, a Digging we will go!! LOL

Congratulations Bula ... really nice gold ring find. You obviously made a good call deciding to dig a VDI of 22. Did it seem to sound better than most pull tab signals?

Over the years I have read and heard stories from detectorists that made a great find while digging a signal in a trash VDI range that they RARELY dig. Most of those that get questioned about why they dug that particular trash signal cannot explain why other than to say

Hunt4fun, yes it did sound a little different. Not the static sound that you get with a tab, & like you my best find was a foil signal & I went past it then turned around & dug just because of the sound, turned out to be a 14K white gold ring with a 1/2 caret diamond.

Bula, obviously we agree there are some audio signals that are just too good to pass. I have come to the conclusion that all really good signals sound very similar. I think where we get puzzled is when we get a really good sounding signal in a VDI range that usually does not sound that good.

Shallow clad dimes usually give a very good audio signal. Occasionally a silver dime will give an especially good audio signal. It does not happen all the time but it does happen. (Actually it probably does happen all of the time but the difference is so small that it only occasionally gets recognized.)

I try to teach new people to develop an ear for good targets. I tell them to use their ears to find a good target before even looking at the detector display. My first rule of thumb is: if you hear ANY scratchy sound, it is ALMOST always a junk target. And, the better a target sounds, the better the odds are that it will be a good find. Like in English Class, there are always exceptions to the rule.

Have fun
Bob
