My best find !

I was metal detecting Saturday and eyed my first-ever arrowhead. A plow had brought it to the surface. After some research, I found that it's a Palmer crystal quartz spear head which was used with an atlatl (or throwing stick), from the early archaic period. Made by a native American in South Carolina 8000 to 9000 years ago!

Never saw a quartz spear point, how big is it?. That is for sure a one-of-a-kind find. Ron

Any prehistoric projectile or tool made from natural clear quartz is a great find. Congrats! David@Dixie

Thanks guys.

The point measures only 1 inch by 3/4 inch, so it must have been used on a rather short spear, maybe two feet long or so.

As I was researching, I found out that bow and arrow technology was developed by Southeastern native Americans only about 1200 to 2000 years ago. Before that time, spears was used. I find that interesting. It must have been a tough way to feed the family.

From now on, while swinging a detector, I'll have my eyes peeled for arrowheads.

Well done Homebrew. I never even knew they existed.
A quartz crystal spearhead! Have you come down from the find yet?
