My best find ever

n/t

:yikes:Wow! Congrats on the Liberty Head Eagle!:please:Incredible find!

Minty looking find for that coin ! Congrats !!!

The find of a lifetime!!!!! I was lucky enough to find a quarter eagle and my knees still knock when I think about it. My story would have been a lot longer and included a LOT more exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris

PS FWIW. A 1/10th ounce 24 KT USD gold bullion coin hits like a dime on my 2500. Gold is a very conductive metal when it is pure. Almost as conductive as copper. The reason gold jewelry rings up down around pull tabs is because of what its alloyed with and how its shaped.

Wow Mickey what an awesome find. I would def. hit that field some more!! WTG:thumbup:

mickey

I would have that beautiful coin appraised for sure. I just looked in one of my coin value mags and if that coin is above a MS-63 (which it sure looks from the photo) then your looking at $175.00 to maybe $1500.00!

Good find

Don

If gold rings up as a penny(mickey) or dime or pull tab(cwilk), as indicated in above posts, that means a lot of people passed up on them. I am confused because the Garrett video for the GTI-2500 uses discrimination to prevent their customers from having to dig junk targets and then I read these posts and wonder do you dig every little thing. I dig most of my targets from 3.5 to 12, but leave off anything below 3.5. I pass up most, if not all D targets in the coin discrimination mode, because I assume they are aluminum cans. What concerns me is if a prince albert can full of coins registers as a D target, I might miss it. I did have some problems with scanning
glass jars full of coins and getting a C or D target, instead of E for cache or B for coins. I save every coin I get when I make change and put them into quart canning jars and when I did an air test by swinging my coil over these targets at depths or 6-12 inches, I would get a C or D target and I guess that is from the canning lid on these jars. Advice please.

Gold rings up all over the scale depending on the purity, weight, and shape. Example. I found a 14k gold soccer pendant 2.4g and the size of a dime that hits on notch 4.5. A thin 14k band I found that weighs 2.2g (almost the same weight) hits on notch 3.5. A thick 6.6g 14k mans wedding band I found hits on notch 7. See what I mean? The 1/10th ounce (3.1g) gold coin I described was pure gold. No alloys at all and rang up between dime and cent.

The same applies to silver rings. I find a number of thin, or bent, or broken 925 rings down around 7 or 7.5. I found a big thumb ring that hit on half dollar.

I don't cache hunt but if I had an area where I suspected there was one, I'd hunt in all metal, and dig everything. I read quite a few detecting books and magazines and from what I can tell the key to cache hunting is extreme patience. A hunter might go years between finding one but when he does it is usually a significant hit.

It sounds to me like you're doing fine.

If you want more attention to be paid to your posts, start a new thread. Once a post gets more than a few days old it receives very little attention.

Post photos of some of your hunts.

I bet it was lost not long after it was minted. That thing might have been
dirt napping for nearly the whole 100 years of it's age.
But I bet that land wasn't a soccer field back then.. Maybe a park though.
I don't know if they played too much soccer back in 1909 KC..
Then again, maybe they did.. I dunno.. I used to live there in a past
life. " Merriam KS, which is next to Overland Park, etc.
