My Brother In Law who introduced me to this fascinating hobby a couple of years ago came up from SW Fl on Monday so that he and I could spend some time together this past week.
Tuesday we hit a fresh water swim area. I was anticipating good things but after we spent a few hours working the water and the sand we had found a ton of pull tabs and a little over five bucks in clad.
Wednesday we went to a local salt water beach. In the past I had found very little at this beach. It is not only very popular with the sun bathers it is very popular with folks who detect. I see other folks there swinging a coil nearly every time I have been there. The area has a small life guarded area that covers maybe 150 yards of the beach. There were so many people there on Wednesday that it was difficult to do any detecting in that area. We spent between 6 and 7 hours there on the beach. I found $2.85 in clad and a ton or two of bottle caps and pull tabs.
He found less than a dollar in clad but did find a 5.6 gram 14K wedding band.
Friday we went back to the same beach. That wedding band that he found made us want to do a more thorough job on that beach. Paid to park at a few minutes after 7am and arrived back at the vehicle after 2pm.
Tide was about full high when we got there and we chased it off the beach as the day progressed. Targets were few and far between. I started working dry sand and finished at dead low tide working the wash zone.
My brother in law dug something over three dollars in clad and some lead sinkers.
About 40 minutes before dead low tide my Excal and I were in the wash zone following a gentleman using a CTX-3030 down the beach. I just off set my search area a little and at times would work across the area he had searched. Got a high nickel tone. Kinda scratched my head as I had not heard that tone before. Took a couple of scoops of sand and spread the second one out with my foot. The wash moved a little sand and I could see just a small rim of yellow in the sand. Picked it up and had a ring in my hands.
As I was digging a couple had walked up fairly close to me so I kept my body between them and my digging. Washed the ring off in the surf and with my old eyes I could not see the hallmark. Light was from the wrong direction ( Yeah Right). So I just dropped it in my pocket and continued to detect down the beach. Picked up a couple of what appear to be junk ear rings and a few more clad coins before the tide started pushing me back up the beach.
Caught up with my Brother in Law and pulled my jewelry finds out of my pocket to show him and I could see 18K in the ring. To say my excitement level went up would be an under statement.
Got home and put the ring on the scales. 9.2 grams of 18K gold wedding band. Makes it the best find I have made so far with either of my machines.
When I got home I told my Wife that both my machines had now paid for themselves. The GT in two years and the Excal in less than a year. Now I need to go find enough to pay for all the accessories.
