My ACE 350 question

Just had it out for first time today, having a hard time understanding the depth gague, says 2 inches or four, seems like I dig a six inch hole, and it still says 2. Pinpoint is working, checked it with coinc, any ideas? I will b investing in a propoint soon it seems.

[size=large]most time i dig further than the indictor it ends up i'm chasing foil or an iron target that's always a little further down than i've dug.
i can see being a 1/2" or so off on any machine. the soil can cause that. but two or more is frustrating. some info that's missing is, are you finding targets after digging the extra 2+ inches more? if so what kind of targets? does it happen most of the time? maybe you just need more time to figure out your settings and how your machine reacts to the ground make-up. don't know how long you been detecting. the ace series is the best turn on and go machines i've seen.

I don't think my depth indicator has ever been accurate. Although it isn't accurate, never believe that there isn't something there. If it says that it is there....then it is. Just keep digging.

Lots of times if you are over a crushed can or similar large aluminum item that is very deep, the ace will show it as a coin sized target at a much shallower depth. One way to tell is to sweep over the target again after you move some dirt from the hole. Lots of times, the target ID will move up a little. For example, if it starts out as a penny/dime signal, and you dig down 3 inches and re-sweep, it might come up as a quarter or half signal. On the Ace 250 and 350, my experience has been that if it shows up in the dollar segment, it is almost always junk.

how far off the ground is the coil.
if it is one inch above the ground and the target is 3 inches below
your meter will read 4 inch.
i have notice this with my ace 250.
just my thoughts.hope it helps.:twodetecting:

The depth reading on this machine seems far inferior to my BH quickdraw and Platinum detectors. But I'm new to the 350.
