My Ace 250 is acting wacko

Since I traded my 150 for a 250 i cannot for the life of me locate a coin without digging a foxhole! I have done everything by the book and cd , and for some reason it pinpoints everything from coins to pull tabs, on the right side of the outside coil. When Vaughan Garrett used the demonstrator it was dead center of the inside hole. Can these things be calibrated somehow? This is very frustrating.

Oldrivers: If I might make a suggestion. Place the unit flat on a bench, table top or whatever and make sure that there isn't any nails or any metal near the coil. Turn the unit on "All Metal"and put in on pinpoint. Place a coin or some small metal near the coil and move it around. Usually the detector has to be in motion but if you wave the metal around the coil it's the same thing, Make sure you don't have any rings, or watch on as it might pickup thesignal from those. You don't have to have the coil attached to the rod, that way you can pinpoint and move the test metal by yourself. Other wise you need extra long arms or a buddy that knows how to push a button. If the test object is near the center of the coil and your pinpointer is way off, you might have to contact the plece you got it from, or drop way back and punt. If that dosen't make sense I'm sure on of the more elequent members of the forum can explain it a little better.....Get Dirty.......Dirty Don

1. Sensitivity= 3 or 4, maybe 5
2. Mode= Coins
3. Swing!
4. To Pinpoint watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liyIUKonpGs
5. Try it it works...

In an earlier post you described what is called "detuning" This is what Garrett was showing you. One way to detune a target is shown in a little vid I made that Sandcrab has for you. Another way is to raise your coil off the ground about an inch directly over the target (best you can) Then push the PP button and hold it on. Then lower your coil to the ground and you'll hear the PP tone get louder. Then you can X your target or use the method in the vid. Either way you'll find it better after detuning. You may have to repush the button a few times to get it just right.

So oldrivers: I am getting my Ace 250 via package service tomorrow, good Lord willing and the creek don't rize. Did it work for you like one the video?

On concentric coils the left to right and up and down signal is the same length. On elliptical coils the up and down signal is longer than the left and right when your over a coin or round target. This makes it a little harder for someone used to a concentric coil. But with a little practice is easy to overcome.

Yeah the configuration of the signal entering the ground is a little different and takes getting used to and some practice.

I appreciate all your hints, and our conversation today Bill. I finally can pinpoint right on the money now. Big relief. I'll be bugging the heck out of everyone when I get my tax refund back. I'm getting a 2500 to play with.

You traded up already?
I had a problem pinpointing with the Ace 250 as well. Took a long time to get used
to the Elipitical coil. I use the Sniper coil almost exclusively now. It takes longer to cover ground but its dead on in pinpointing.
Almost everything in the photo below was gotten with the Sniper coil minus $2.75 in clad and the Medallion that I got with the MXT.

well that does it then. i'm getting a sniper coil. I noticed the same coil for her bounty hunter was very very precise. it pinpointed to the exact dead center of the x on her coil. she touched every coin she found with her knife. thanks for the info

The depth is good too. Honestly, I have used it the most on the Ace 250. It just takes a little more time to cover ground
but as long as the weather is nice, who cares!
