My $6 Travel Shaft

Hopping on a plane for Springfield, Ill in a few days and wanted to take the CTX instead of the Makro. The stock shaft won't fit in either a carry-on nor standard checked bag so I decided to build my own for this trip. May end up buying the Anderson travel shaft at some point dependent on my frequency of future travel.
I had everything on hand except for the dye so bought a 1/4 oz bottle of black off ebay for $6 shipped.
I little flex but feels insignificant.
I don't plan to keep the coil on this pvc shaft except when detecting.
I'll report back when I get some field time.
Parts & Tools:
3/4" sched 40 PVC, Coupler, 2" wood plug, Epoxy (plug), Rekhaoil PVC dye, Acetone, Duct tape (shaft lock tolerance & coil washer), belt sander, sand paper, drill & bit.

Well done:clapping:.

I like it.

I made one for AU$4,(US$3) but yours looks better.
All we need now is for someone to come up with a home made version of a replacement for the square upper shaft (not cutting the original one shorter).
Would do well with a shortening of it and a separable lower shaft (two piece like the one you've made) for more compact travel purposes.

Thanks for showing

Visiting my son and his family. Only found a few wheats and clad in a nearby park the last time I visited but didn't take the CTX.

Cut the long shaft a tad shorter so it would collapse flush inside the main body.
Passed right through TSA with everything in my carry-on!
Now hoping to find some old silver in the Springfield area.

As a water hunter that size really has to be reduced...... swings as hard as a 2X4..... just to much drag. I can handle the floating, makes control a bit of a challenge, but the drag really takes it out of you.

I built this for travel land hunting and I've used it for 14hrs and it has held up well.
I've used the CTX with stock shaft up to chest deep water and I do feel more drag than either my Infinium or CZ20 which are my primary water units.

I was fortunate enough to see this shaft in person today, it is truly a work of art. Great craftsmanship Flysar!
