My 1st trip to a salt water beach...Issues & the solution for me..

I think I can see why people use entirely diffrent machines for the surf.

My 1st trip in eons to the beach. Seaside Oregon & as most of you know we have a lot of minerals around here.

I was using a Tesoro Silver U-max, 12 x 10 coencentric coil. I have externally adjustable GB modification so its very versatile.

When I hit the water line all bets were off. I could not turn down the GB enough to stop falsing.

Turns out it can be done I was just pulling a nube. I was scrubbing the coil around just like I do in the grass. Well you all may go-Duh. But news to me is you lift the coil off an inch-and the problem almost goes away. It still falses if you get careless & dip too low in a swing. But targets rang nice & clear. Scooped a couple dollars in change-no jewelry but I was running no disc so I dug my share of tabs.

I only had an hour & a half to detect but I really want to go back-like I just got the hang of it before I had to leave dagnabit!..

But I learned yet another trick & figured I'd share

especially depending upon the model and coil used, the settings, and if you're "in the wet zone" or not.

If your GB adjustment range works reasonably, then you should have been able to GB out the nasty mineralization we have. You can't easily balance out the wet salts AND the iron mineralization out there. The whetted salts (wet sand and salt water) are actually low-conductive and can best be 'rejected' by using just a little bit of Discrimination.

No, nothing is perfect, but I used to hunt Seaside and a few other sites with what started out as a "turn-on-and-go" model that I had modified (two, actually, the Classic III SL and IDX Pro) and did very well.

They key to those models is that with the mods done I could adjust the GB for the ground environment (BEFORE I got into the wet zone so that it was functional), and then they have a nice expanded range of Discrimination on the low-end I could just gently reject the more annoying wet beach. in addition to that I would also try to work the coil

My family was there & frankly-they are not big fans of the MD thing wich is why my time was so limited.

I have to do a solo trip-or if you need a co-driver or whatever LMK.
Carl.
