My 1st Gold Ring

Scored my first gold ring today, in the surf of a Hawaiian beach:

The beach is so clean that I dig almost every target, both to verify my target ID and to practice recovery, because I'm still pretty new at this.

I knew it was a good target, but thought it was going to be a quarter. I was happy to be wrong. It's two-tone white/yellow and stamped 14k on the inside. I won't know how much it weighs until I get home to my scale.

I continued to hunt until the surf grew high enough that it was beating me up pretty good.

and 14k, I'd say it weighs 5-6 grams, nice find. Hope you find many more. Last time I was in Hawaii was in 1969 when I was on R&R from Viet Nam. Someday I hope to go back but this time with my metal detector....and wife of course....lol Good hunting to you. John

I got home tonight and weighed the ring: 9.0 grams.

Got $2.06 in clad from the dry sand the next morning.

Great find! I was in Hawaii once for about an hour. Never saw more than the air terminal and some flowery shirts for sale.
I didn't know about hunting then. LBJ himself came on our plane to see us off. Febuary 1968. A long time ago
I and a couple of hundred other Marines were on our way to a place called Vietnam, where some of them would meet their destiny.
I do remember that it was a beautiful warm evening, I was 19 and I was thinking how great it would be to be walking along a beach with a pretty girl.
Anyway, I have often thought about going back one day, but time and age slow a person down. Still, brief as it was, I do remember Hawaii.
You're a lucky person, take advantage of it. :)

Great thoughts. Thank you, and all who served, for your sacrifice! Happy hunting....and more importantly...just happy....
