You stated: "Hello, new to this forum and have used my mxt for about one year."... Welcome to the forum. What type of sites do you usually hunt? What is the MXT's ground phase reading at most of your typical sites? Whate settings and which mode do you usually hunt with?
"I have had a hard time with it skipping around. Seen you had good luck with the 8" excellerator. I have the stock 950 and eclipse 4x6 but havent been impressed with the depth from either."... By 'skipping around' do you mean the Target ID is very jumpy? Do you Lock the GB or let it track? Do you hunt near any outside electrical interference sources? Is it "jumpy" if you're just holding the coil statioonary an inch or so off the ground?
Let me just say that the MXT (I have owned four of them) is not the most rock-soild unit when it comes to stability, especially if you're operating it in the + Gain range where I always hunt with it.
I have found that, in the same sites and same conditions, an XLT, XL Pro, X-Terra 50 and Explorer II were all quieter and stable when the MXT seemed to be a little 'jumpy.' It's the nature of the beast.
As for the 8" EXcelerator coil, I prefer it to the stock 950 because I find that it balances better, and it operates quieter than with the 950.
"I have been looking at the excellerator 14"."... What applications would yo8u have for the 14" coil? If you want to have more coverage with approxximately similar depth on sm,aller coin-sized targets it will work./ If you're looking for bigger targets, it will work. If you're trying to get a lot more depth on tiny coins, then that's not the way to go.
"Have you any info on this coil or can give me any pointers on my machine."... For general hunting with an MXT I personally feel the 8" EXcelerator is a great choice. After that coil I like the 5.3 Eclipse from White's. In moderately trashy sites my preference would be the 4
