My 1st Canadian large cent.

Davey

New member
Hit an old baseball park with my brother (mailman) yesterday and was very surprised to find this canadian large cent way out in right field. I used my MXT with my new 8 inch EXcelerator coil to find it at about 7 inches down. Mailman was able to dig up a 1882 indian and about 8 wheaties. I quess we'll go back there real soon.

Way to go, Davey. Looks to be in pretty good condition.

Congratulations!

Hello, new to this forum and have used my mxt for about one year.I have had a hard time with it skipping around.Seen you had good luck with the 8" excellerator.I have the stock950 and eclipse4x6 but havent been impressed with the depth from either.I have been looking at the excellerator 14".Have you any info on this coil or can give me any pointers on my machine.THANKS Arvid

You stated: "Hello, new to this forum and have used my mxt for about one year."... Welcome to the forum. What type of sites do you usually hunt? What is the MXT's ground phase reading at most of your typical sites? Whate settings and which mode do you usually hunt with?

"I have had a hard time with it skipping around. Seen you had good luck with the 8" excellerator. I have the stock 950 and eclipse 4x6 but havent been impressed with the depth from either."... By 'skipping around' do you mean the Target ID is very jumpy? Do you Lock the GB or let it track? Do you hunt near any outside electrical interference sources? Is it "jumpy" if you're just holding the coil statioonary an inch or so off the ground?

Let me just say that the MXT (I have owned four of them) is not the most rock-soild unit when it comes to stability, especially if you're operating it in the + Gain range where I always hunt with it.

I have found that, in the same sites and same conditions, an XLT, XL Pro, X-Terra 50 and Explorer II were all quieter and stable when the MXT seemed to be a little 'jumpy.' It's the nature of the beast.

As for the 8" EXcelerator coil, I prefer it to the stock 950 because I find that it balances better, and it operates quieter than with the 950.

"I have been looking at the excellerator 14"."... What applications would yo8u have for the 14" coil? If you want to have more coverage with approxximately similar depth on sm,aller coin-sized targets it will work./ If you're looking for bigger targets, it will work. If you're trying to get a lot more depth on tiny coins, then that's not the way to go.

"Have you any info on this coil or can give me any pointers on my machine."... For general hunting with an MXT I personally feel the 8" EXcelerator is a great choice. After that coil I like the 5.3 Eclipse from White's. In moderately trashy sites my preference would be the 4

than the one and only Canadian LC I found right before leaving the Pensacola area of all places. I guess you just never know what or where when it comes to this hobby :) Mine was in terrible condition and it wasn't even close to any salt water.
Nice find

Thanks for the reply Monte.I usually hunt around homes and in the mountains. My ground phase seems to be in the mid 60s and I keep my settings pretty close to preset.I do mean jumpy because it seems to not lock on one target unless a shallow coin.I very seldom lock the trac.Would you think the 8"excellerator would be a good choice for my next coil and if so what kind of depth could I typically expect, better than the stock 950. Thanks Arvid.

"I usually hunt around homes and in the mountains. My ground phase seems to be in the mid 60s and I keep my settings pretty close to preset."... Mid-60's ground phase is pretty decent!

"I do mean jumpy because it seems to not lock on one target unless a shallow coin."... Well, like I have stated, I have owned 4 MXT's and I never really got great "lock-on" at depth. Much like the many (16) XLT's I have owned or the DFX's (3), a "lock-on" on a coin is not expected on anything that I consioder to be 'deep.' A full, tall bar and good 'lock on' in the upper 3"-4" and a reduced bar and a little jumpier anywhere from 4" on deeper.

Matter of fact, I get better Target ID performance (correct or closer read-out and/or a 'lock-on' at depth) from my IDX Pro and X-Terra 50 and an XL Pro than I do from the DFX, XLT, MXT or new Matrix M6.

"I very seldom lock the trac."... If you have good, consistent ground and don't encounter a lot of targets (trash type) then using Autotrac
