well heres the finds for the weeked, 9 quarters, 5 dimes(found 1 in pocket after picture;)) 8 zinc pennys, 1 nickle(VDI showed a +70????) and a wheatie that was 6" wit vdi from 40's to 80's. Also ended up with some sort of tag wit the numbers 55 on it?? Today was cut short due to a incident with my digger not holding up:rage: But other than that im getting used to the detector and hoping to find alot more.

Good hunt. There are reasons you got a 70 on the nickel. One is there was a dime or penny in the hole you missed. I had one like that last week. I got a penny - dime reading and pulled a nickel out of the hole. Then I passed the coil over the hole and still got the penny reading and pulled out the penny. On another hole I got a quarter reading and pulled out a penny and dime stacked.

Another thing is you will get odd readings if there is a piece of trash near the coin. Many times I get a junk reading with just a flash of a coin reading. After I dig the trash the coin reads true. Rob

Looks like you are in the market for a Lesche digger. Nice finds for your first weekend. HH Dennis in Idaho

i did recheck the hole the nickle came out of and nothing, really had me confused....after the coins were out of the ground they all read in the right zone...just in the ground they were off, could i be doing something wrong, possibly ground balance?? Ill be honest i used the Lesche my buddy has and really didnt like it, leanin more towards a sawtooth curved trowel.

Nice outting and I would bet that there was something else very close by the nickel. It could have been deeper or even near the side. You're doing good. HH to all, Nancy

Thank you...the one thing i decided im giong to get is the DX-1 probe. The pin pointer is nice but i think the probe would be so much easier

Great finds for the first hunt, You did real good Dave..........

Dave, I'm tough on digging tools. I have a habit of using them as "prybars" a bit too often. I've destroyed atleast a half-dozen in the past year. Finally bought a Lesche. I think my wrist will give out before this tool does. One digger that I do like a lot
and would recommend is the AME'S True-Temper 7-1 Garden Buddy. Their part # 2500800. This has got excellent root cutting capabilities and light weight. Very tough blade. Handle started to seperate from blade but that's due to my gorilla digging style. It was brought to my attention on this forum quite some time ago. I can get them for about $11.75 each. I think they normally sell for about $17.00 bucks.
The Sun-Ray is the way to go. Next best thing to my detector itself.

Oh yeah, nickles. All the posts from the outstanding people on this forum are true, I've found nickles from 14 -37 VDI. Some even higher with clear solid tone. Wether it's other nearby trash partially masking the coin, or it's orientation to the search coil that's one coin that surprises.

The "55" thing looks like a license plate renewal tag. Before they had stickers, some states updated plates with tags like that. You'd fold the tabs over to attach it to the plate.

Agree with everyone... get yourself a real digger. Buy a Lesche now, and never buy another digger. Buy anything else, you'll have to replace it sometime.

Also the Sunray probe is worth the money.

I picked this one up today for $10...Really nice about 1/4" thick blade, serrated on one side sharp on the other blade is solid all thru the handle...cant wait to try it...lifetime warrenty...

I use a garden knife that I found at my local Menard's. Looks alot like the Lesche, but has a double point. Finished up 07 with it. Used it all of last year and so far this year. plus I use it for alot of landscaping chores in my yard. Cost $2.99 (sale price) $4.99 regular price in 2007. You won't believe how stout this thing is.

Its made by OXO...I found it at the store Ross, they retail for 25 and it was the last one they had...got lucky on it
