Got my MXT 300 yesterday!! Cant wait to get out and use it. Im just not sure of the 12" coil that came with it it looks BIG. Should i spend the money for a 950 coil?

Not only is the 12" coil big, it is also very heavy. I would go with Joe and purchase the 6x10 eclipse.

I use both the 950 and the 6x10 eclipse both are very good coils.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Les.

:clap:I love my Super 12. Tho the super 12 is heavy, try the method that Larry/ill taught me. Raise the lower rod up 1 or 2 notches(depending on how tall you are) you can compinsate and it will help a great deal on timing to MD for the day. I'm 76 and It sure helps me to swing longer. The next best coil I guess would be like leslie/ Joe from MD With the 6 x 10 and others will tell you with a lot of differences, like the 5.3, 4 x 6 and others. Whatever you get you will need them at one time or the other for specific areas. good luck, theres a lot to choose from. Maybe you can hookup with someone around your area and they would let you try out a couple to see how they work in the fields and streams. Good luck in whichever you choose. KC aka

I'll put in another vote for the 6X10. I have that one plus the 9.5 and the 12 as well as the 5.3 and 4X6 shooter. I find for most of my detecting that I seldom use the larger two. The 6X10 is quite good as an all around, the 5.3 does pretty well that way too, especially in trashy areas and the 4X6 is down right surgical when you need to work through extra heavy trash.

I am going to put my vote in for the 5.3 coil, I ended up getting rid of my 6x10 coil and replacing it with the 5.3 and haven't looked back since. I can't say enough good about the 5.3, I also have the 950 and the 12"..the 5.3 stays on my MXT pro 80% of the time or more, the 950 is on during the other times (unless I get to the beach which is rare for me). Alot of people love the 6x10 it just wasn't the coil for me.

What size is the 5.3 and how does it perform on coins and relics. I dont beach hunt either.

The 5.3 ecplise coil is a 6" coil. In my opinion it gives more accurate vdi readings (bottle caps ect) and I get the same depth and better seperation in heavy trash, its great for parks and tight areas. Not to mention its a very light coil and easy to swing for extended periods. The 6x10 and the 950 are very close in weight if I am not mistaken and I use the 950 for more trash free open areas.

If any places you hunt is extra trashy the 4x6 shooter coil can't be beat as it is a dd coil and really has target seperation I use it most of the time in the parks around here as there's tons of pull tabs and foil in them.
