MXT!

Finally got my MXT!!! I think I'm getting a handle on it. It's hard to relearn the beeps and chatter on it. I'm used to the White's Classic III. I was getting a lot of noise and chatter but I'm learning to adjust the threshold. I was getting a lot of "Overload" messages on my screen when I hit a pocketnife....how much should I crank down on the Gain. I turned it down to 7,8 and I'm still getting the message.

Justin,
You will get overloads on any large object close to the surface. Gain at 7-8 should only be used in heavy trash to minimize falsing, etc. Lowering your gain will also reduce your depth.
Threshold to barely audible is best. If your ground has heavy mineralization then you may be better served with the 10"DD coil.
Read your ground by going to prospecting mode. My ground is forgiving and reads from 40 to low 60's.
The VDI of 8 at 10-12 inches is new to me. It may be a very small piece of foil at 2-3 inches or a small gold ring with a 2 karat diamond at 8 inches... , but you won't know until you dig one. Pick an area that isn't too pretty if you do.....
