MXT XLT question......

i am still learning both machines...with that said, using both machines with the 9.5 coils and with xlt using factory c&j mode i have noticed that the xlt will lock on to deeper coins alot better.mxt settings are ground balanced and in ground trac position, threshold slight hum, gain past 10 with smooth threshold sound..c&j mode and disc at factory setting before nickle..... i have the book mxt edge and have been reading it again and again...in the book it says its better for the ground trac switch to be in lock mode once ground balanced if in mild ground, iron infested ground or park like settings with lots of trash..i have not been doing that,i have used ground trac setting. i think that once you ground balance the xlt its locked and my mxt wasnt and maybe nulling out some deeper targets??? the yards i have been hunting in are old home sites with alot of old iron pieces all over. and also parks with alot of trash, and the ground here in central ohio is very mild. the mxt edge is a great read! if anyone can give me a couple pointers it would make my day!

If in old homesites with iron and other trashy sites, you need to lock the ground trac after balancing over clean ground. If not the MXT will start balancing itself to the targets you are trying to find and that will cause you to miss ALOT of targets. That's why it is not locking on targets good. Try locking it and you should see greatly improved performance,

thanks alot jeff! it worked like a charm...it worked so good i am selling my XLT and getting another MXT for a loaner. my son-n-law loves the MXT. the only reason i held on to the XLT after getting the MXT was due to the ground trac/lock..now i understand it very well.
