yes i have aquestion for you all . i can turn the discriminatog knob wide open , and in coin and jewerly , and it will give me a singial of a penny on a mashed beer can ,or a large pull tab , i have not yet seen where it will knock the pull tabs with the switch in the forward postion , i know that there is difference in pull tabs of the old kind and the new ones but this feature has not worked for me yet .i do not think it is working right , i have had it more than a year now have did ever kind of test on all kinds of metal;s and coins ,buttons you name it i have tried it /it has failed the test . have not tried at the beach . what do you all think .

First let me say I don't notch out tabs because I like to find rings. I also never look at the icons they are a waste of time and screen space. I only look at the numbers. I looked in my pouch and only had the pull tabs type with the tails. The trigger forward will definitely take this type out even with the disc. set to 2 or 3. Since I don't have one of the big rectangular ones, the ones that read a 45 or 47, I don't know it will work on them.

The penny reading being a deep can is normal, except for me the cans usually read a 74 or 75. My pennies never give me these two numbers. When I get a penny reading at 5 or 6 inches and I think it might be can slaw I raise my coil. If I still get a penny reading with the coil 5 or 6 inches above the ground it is a deep can. A coin at 5 or 6 inches will not read at this height height. If it disappears, with the coil raised, a 74 gets me a Chucky Cheese token. Cans and slaw also pinpoint bigger than a coin. I can't remember the last time I got a penny reading and dug a tab. Rob

Crank disc full clockwise, use relic mode, trigger in center, don;t look at the display, just dig high tones.

thats you guys , this has really help a lot . i did not think of power lines and all the junk . i was hunting a very bad spot , using 6x10 / got home and checked out it is working fine . thanks a lot .

I thought the same thing when I first started using my MXT. I emailed White's and the tab notch doesn't handle all tabs - depends on the size and shape. As to turning the discriimination to the extreme I've done that with every detector I've had and generally you won't be able to completely eliminate large aluminum (cans or?) or very large iron. As to the screen rcasio44 has it right - pay attention to the numbers and along with that, sharpen your ear and you will find that a good share of the time you can do with out the screen at all. Not necessarily to specifically id the target by sound, but you'll get better and better at recognizing whether the target is likely trash or a coin of some sort Coming from beep and dig machines, I find that I listen first and look second. A good percentage of the time when I think I'm hearing a good coin hit, the TID agrees with me and generally both of us are pretty accurate. The difference in the sounds are subtle, but you can learn to pick them out over time. For what it's worth, my MXT does very well on nickels generally 99% as long as the numbers run from 14 to 18 or sometimes 20. Anything higher than that usually bounces around and ends up being tabs or odd pieces of foil.

My MXT reads18- 20 on nickels and its a nickel every time if it reads that. Anything else it is usually a pulltab.

Mine reads18-20 on nickels also, but sometime it will be the rectangular 2 holed pull tab which reads a solid 18-20 also.
