MXT vs X-Terra 70

No one beats the quality and customer service of Whites! I have to give credit to the X-Terra 70, I really like the frequency change of the coils and it is a very nice detector, as far as depth they are very similar, but I am not a fan of Minelab's customer service and repair department. Sorry, no offense just my opinion after dealing with both companies.

I used to own a 70 and found heaps with it, gold, coins & relics. In quiet ground to medium you might not notice much difference. And, if you pit the MXT against it using only the DD coil on it (the MXT) you would see the 70 having a slight advantage over it on really small gold. But, change the coil like the 70 and put the 5.3 Eclipse on it and you now have it matching the 70 no probs, even maybe just beating it for sens. Then you get into the real bad ground and now the MXT SAT starts kicking it. You will or should be able to run a higher gain in that said ground and wont suffer nearly as many threshold changes, rises and drops, as the 70 will. More controllable than the 70 is as the ground gets worse. I believe better disc too in the prospecting mode.
Someone else can answer about it on the coin and relic front though as I spend more time chasing yellow than I do the other.
Besides that, the MXT's are rock solid quality wise compared to the Minelabs problem child.

The MXT is a better built unit, and the customer service is more responsive to the customer. I sold my X-Terra 70 and have no regrets, performance is similar on both units. Kelley (Texas) :)

I have had all 3 X-Terras and 2 MXT's and a M-6, I would pick the MXT or M-6 over any X-Terra...
I had problems with the X-50, it had to be sent in 2 times for repair.

Go with the MXT

I don't have a horse in this race, but due to all the trouble that I had with my X-50 and reading of others with problems with X-Terras,,
now I am watching a friend go through the same trouble with his new, never even been hunting with his X-70.

If I were to buy one again, it would be the MXT !

When you post a question like that on this site, you will get answers like this. Because we all LOVE OUR MXT's:whites::thumbup:

I had an X-Terra 70 and the L Freq., 10.5" M Freq. DD and the H Freq. 6" DD coils. I sold all and now have a MXT and a M-6 and I'm not a bit sorry. I have much more faith in the MXT or M-6. Both seem to lock onto targets better than my X- 70. Both Whites are a pleasure to detect with.
