mxt vs m6

Rocko37

New member
Hello all

I am new to this forum and i have always been interested in metal detecting and i am ready to buy my first detector. i have been researching
the past few months reading everything i can find and i am totaly stuck on the mxt or m6,i just cant deside what to do here...i have read many
of the mxt vs m6 chatter but what i want to know is,,how small of a nug will the mxt find?...i hear where i live in rocky mountain house, alberta, canada ,,there is
gold but thy say its mostly flower gold around here so i beleave it must be small,so what i am wondering is should i even bother with the mxt,,i am very interested
in prospecting but maby i would need a rig geared more to very small,i am interested in coin shooting aswell, thats why i was thinking the m6,i love the idea of the tone search,,,
,well any come back would be apreshated, thanks again

Well First of all Welcome!

The MXT vs M6 topic has been covered a few times. Here's a link to 4 pages of great information from seasoned users and some friendly banter between interested parties :starwars:!

My (limited) $0.02.....

If you even think you might ever go out for gold easy answer - MXT. Some links here also cover what coils have worked for people in a batch of conditions.

I'm new to the MXT thing this season and the MXT has scored coins and rings in areas where I covered with an XLT. You won't be let down by it's abilties. The tones are an issue but youcan squeak two out of the MXT and get a huge amount of info using the modes as well.

Happy Hunting up north!

hello and thx for the info sbmsp,,i will check this link out..have a great one

If others have any info,i would like to hear some more feed back please:wiggle:

The MXT and the M6 are the same detector except that the M6 just has a coin mode and has tones, The MXT is three detectors in one, it has a relic, coin and prospecting mode. Now if all you are going to do is hunt for coins then the M6 will be just fine, BUT if you think you might want to do a little relic hunting or maybe even some prospecting then you need to spend the extra $100.00 and buy the MXT.... Just my opinion......Don't want to start a detector bashing war here again......:whites:..........

I own the GMT and a MXT and I can honestly tell you that the MXT is one great Gold detecting machine, I have no problem finding flour gold with it. MXT + 6 X 10 DD = GMT

If you live in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta Canada, then I can tell you there is more then just flour gold. you can find some nice size nuggets in those hills and streams................

Yes and welcome to the forum......:clapping:

Thankyou for the welcome Bob:cheers:, I definetly respect your info and opinions on this, i have seen many of your posts!.. ..I will be buying a MXT with a 6 X 10 coil :clapping:...any ideas as to where i would get the best deal?
keep in mind i am in canada.

I deal with Kellyco, but I don't know what the exchange rate is. You might be better dealing with a dealer in your area. You can find some great deals on this site, go to metal detectors classifieds and check the adds...........

When hunting flour gold you want to locate the heavy black sand, it's mostly made up iron so the MXT will track it well. when you find a big concentrate of it in and around streams then you need a gold pan and /or sluice box to work the sand and get to the gold. But you can still find finger nail size nuggets up on ridges over streams and rivers and on hill sides, I have found small pickers and flacks the size of pin heads with the MXT. The specialized detectors are designed to pick up larger size nuggets and deeper nuggets where the MXT will get the smaller surface gold.....:detecting:

Right on,i am calling kellyco today to get a price, thy have a very good sale on now aswell..i will also try out my local dealer there is one here in town...what do you think
about the GARRETT GRAVITY TRAP GOLD PANNING KIT CLASSIFIER PANS? i see them on ebay ...i am very excited now cant wait to get out and enjoy the outdoors:whites::please:

Garrett makes a very good gold pan, I have a couple of them..........

Well i will buying that pan very soon also, thanks Bob:cheers:.... I just ordered my:whites: mxt she will be here soon:thumbup: will report back after i test it:thumbup:
