MXT VS Fisher CZ

derby80

New member
I am basically a novice detectorist. I once owned a White's XLT but I sold it to help buy Christmas for my grandkids (daughter was down on her luck). She had paid me back and I got a Fisher CZ 70. Being a White's user I dont know if I like the CZ. I've been looking at the MXT and it seems like a detector I would like. Can anyone tell me the good and bad between the MXT and the CZ 70?

What a great heart you have derby80M. Bless you.

Your question about the MXT and the CZ 70?

MXT - GOOD, VERY GOOD.

CZ 70 - DON'T HAVE A CLUE.

I have the MXT 300 and the CZ 70.
They are both good units and made like a tank, you can not say made like a tank on the new Fishers.
I like both units and don't want to open up a can of worms on a MXT forum..
If you learn the CZ 70 or the MXT, and I mean learn it, you will have a good unit....
They both have good & bad..
The place that you hunt has a lot to do with detecting, its more about Location !
Your question would be better asked on the Metal Detecting forum....Sorry.

The CZ-70 is rain proof, much better on the wet salt beaches and is one of the more desirable CZ's. A really nice coin machine, hotter on silver than the MXT.
The MXT is the better prospector by a long shot, good for micro jewelry too. The MXT really hot on gold, as it is a gold detector first, and is a stellar relic machine with the massive and abundant coils available for it. It does pretty nice on coins, but I prefer the CZ for coins with the multi tone ID. The MXT has the better discriminator if you don't need tones. The MXT has 2 tones in relic mode. The CZ is much quieter hunter which is a bonus. The MXT is more sensitive hence noisier with it's higher gain.
Both a CZ and a MXT are in my arsenal. They both handle heavy mineralization very well, and are ring magnets, which is why I own them. Wouldn't give up one over the other.
You wouldn't feel out gunned with either of them. You can even prospect with the CZ, whilst not as small of nuggets the MXT can do, but the CZ gets amazing depth in adverse ground conditions on larger gold. Sub grain nuggets detection in ultramafic rock or graphitic slate ain't going to happen anyway, no matter which detector you use.

well going strictly by customer service from what i have read all over the net whites is top notch IF you ever have a problem. i myself just took the leap from another brand to whites and am trying to learn as much as i can before the snow melts here in ohio. as for fisher never used one, but have heard quite a bit of bad reports on there NEW customer service.i guess alot has changed at fisher. i now have the mxt and the xlt and cant wait to get out and use them more!!!
oh and the mxt edge book is a must, great info.im reading it as i type. good luck!

The CZ 70 has a back light, in the summer when its hot, you can hunt in the dark when its cooler, with the Tone ID and the back light....
The CZ 70 can be hip or chest mounted, if you like.
The MXT does not wear me out like the CZ does.
There are a lot of coils for the MXT.
Fisher only made a 5",8" & 10.5" coil,,Sun Ray made a 12" coil, but try to find one...

There are a ot of good detectors out there. I never owned a fisher. I'm told before they were bought out by Frist Texas they
were top notch; now I hear the reverse. They still have some good detectors but...........

Garrett makes some fine detectors as well. I have one of them, the Ace 250. TOP QUALITY as are most of the other garrett line.
Customer servive is very decent, but not as good as Whites in my opinion.

I started with a Whites IDX Pro a few years back. Sold it. (Stupid, stupid, stupid) Was a good detector. Bought an Ace 250 and later a used
Whites MXT. I never regretted the MXT. They repaired it for free even though I wasn't the original owner. Can't beat that.
One day I'll buy a brand new MXT but thats a ways down the line.

I think you'll enjoy the MXT.

Good luck hunting.
