Just recently found dimes vid at 78 79 always thought it was 80.Just started to really check each coin and vid no.before and after i dug it up to see what year the coin is according to vid.Does any one have numbers for indian heads and older coins?Iam in nothern ohio and mineral content anywhere from 67 to 80 and moves up and down the scale alot. Also just started to really get controll of stock 950,which i thought was junk, but walked though really trash infested sites and pulled coins out that i missed with the 4by6 mini dd.Thanks.started runnig the mxt about 2 years ago and my idx about4 years.Learn something new eveyday. used other brands before these.

I've found some dimes that show a litte under 80 at times w/an MXT. Many Canadian dimes will ID as a penny.
It's pretty strange though if you're able to find coins in trashy areas with the 9.5" coil better than the 4x6". It should be the other way around and no contest between the two, the 4x6DD coil should far excel over the 9.5 in those trashy areas.

I haven't found the VDI to be dead on any particular number but rather within a number range. Clad dimes usually read (in my high mineralized ground) 78 to 80 and sometimes 81. I've had old silver dimes(i.e. barber dime) read as high as 82 but don't bounce around alot-my guess is silver does't degrade the way clad does. As far as Indian Heads my oldest is an 1881 that VDI'ed in the pull tab range (42 to 47 for that particular coin) although most the time they run in the zinc cent range (62-67).

Dont get me wrong i love my 4by6 mini.it is what is usally on my mxt.But recently i really gave the stock 9 a chance and for some reasone it just started to work well for me as far as walking through trash areas and picking coin from the trash even in areas where i would only use the mini.I like the mini for going slow and listening to the threshold and finding coins at the max depth i can better speration. thanks for imformation.

It can be done w/the 9.5 (with some difficulty) if the stuff doesn't get too close together. But when the junk is very close together, it's just abt. impossible to zero in on any one particular item and keep it long enough to pinpoint it and then hold it for a pinpoint, at least for me.
Make this test... Next time your in a congested area of junk, cruise over, around and through the stuff with the 9.5... without digging anything up. Try to make a pinpoint on one or two items. Then switch over to the 4x6 and hit the SAME spot again. I THINK that you'll see an improved difference. You'll have "breathing room" again w/the smaller DD coil.
