MXT upgrade to the DFX

Are there many of you that have gone from the MXT to DFX and if so was it a smart move? I have a chance to get a new DFX for $750.00.

The DFX is a whole new ballgame from using the MXT. The DFX is not necessarily an upgrade and the user will have a lot to learn to get the best from it. It took me a year to master the DFX and it treated me well for 10 years, but keep in mind that it is a dual frequency fully adjustable detector with a longer learning curve. Nancy with her MXT kept up with me and the DFX....... (most of the time ) My recommendation is add a few hundred more and get a clean used V3i if you want to go with a programmable.

I upgraded when I sold my DFX and got the MXT! I just could not get the hang of tweeking the DFX and when I went to the MXT found that my finds picked up. I like the simplicity and the MXT is a very capable detector. I will say, I thought the DFX found silver easier as it had a lower frequency as well as a high. I just have more fun with the MXT. As mentioned above, if you really want to upgrade and don't mind tweeking, get the V3i.

I just sold my DFX 300 and bought the MXT PRO and a 10x12 SEF coil. I have found a lot of good stuff with the DFX but I mainly hunt relics and felt the MXT would be a better choice especially on some Virginia soil. Just like the DFX I will sell the 12" coil and get another coil that would be much better. I wish White's would replace the 12" coil on the 300 series and the Pro with a 6x10 or D2. I think it would make a better package.

I own a V3i, an MXT, an XL Pro, an IDX Pro and Classic ID .... and I have owned a DFX. If I had to get rid of all but one detector, I would get rid of all of them and upgrade to an MXT Pro .... my MXT and the XL Pro would be really hard to part with though.

Good luck with your decision.
Bob

If I had an MXT and wanted to move up the White's line with a new-production model, I'd simply go for the MXT Pro.

PS: Yes, I have owned a few DFX's and won't again. I am picking up my brand new XLT this week, however, which I found to be a much better detector for my needs.
